Following on from its initial six months in a first-fill Pedro Ximénez sherry hogshead, the Speyside 12-Year-Old single malt Scotch then ages in its perfectly matched finishing cask.
When our eyes first fell on the outer packaging of the Speyside 12-year-old single malt Scotch, we were stunned. The colours work together to create an elevated appearance, and the matching magpies with gilded wings truly draw us in. Once opened, the bottle entrances us with the amber glow of the scotch against the immaculate white label, highlighted by gallant blue and glittering gold, tempting us to remove the cork and dive right in.
The deep brown liquid glints gold itself. The colour captivates the eye as we imagine all the flavours within. Throughout its years of maturation, the Speyside 12-year-old single malt Scotch soaks in a wealth of essences from toffee to raisins, almonds, and figs. We imagine the soft simmering of the fruits within the cask as the flavours are complemented by hints of wood to fuse it all together.
We gently open the bottle and pour a healthy dram. With every taste, the whisky coats one’s mouth and throat, warming all the way down to the stomach. The woody and fruity notes blend together in an expert fashion, smooth and coordinated. The finishing cask has clearly nurtured the spirit, as the hints of sherry sweetness dance on the tip of the tongue.
Left with a remaining warmth within the chest, and rich flavours upon the tongue, we were excited to let our readers know how this whisky changed our idea of what it means to experience a fine drink.
