Gilbey’s is a family run restaurant group to its very core. Owners and husband and wife team Lin and Michael Gilbey first opened Gilbey’s Eton in 1975, situated in an enviable position on the High Street, between the historic buildings of Eton College and Windsor Castle.

Gilbey’s Old Amersham followed in 1989, after Michael and Lin extensively renovated a 17th Century former grammar school into an intimate restaurant, stunning first-floor private dining room and gorgeous garden in the heart of the historic Chiltern market town.

Everything is overseen by two of the best Operations Managers in the business: Emma Brett has been at Gilbey’s Eton for 18 years and Pip Gentles has been at Old Amersham for 25 years! Both are integral to the ethos and smooth-running of both sites.

GILBEY’S FOOD

The food at Gilbey’s is best described as Modern British, although each restaurant is given its own identity thanks to the individual talents of each Head Chef and their teams. The kitchen at Gilbey’s Eton is led by Head Chef Amaury de Oliveira who adds a French twist to his dishes, whilst Gilbey’s Old Amersham is under the guidance of Head Chef Adam Whitlock whose passion for all things British is evident throughout. Both chefs work closely with local suppliers and growers.

The menus are adapted in tune with the seasons. Dishes on the À la Carte Menu for spring / summer feature starters such as Duck Liver Pâté & fig gel with pickled Shimeji mushrooms (Eton). Main dishes include Roast Atlantic Cod with capers & roasted artichokes & herb-crushed new potatoes (Old Amersham). Gilbey’s Fish & Chips – featuring Panko-crumbed Cornish cod, with tartare sauce, skin-on- fries and peas-three-ways (both sites) is a favourite with the locals and very much a Gilbey’s lunchtime signature offering. Homemade desserts include Rhubarb Panna Cotta (Old Amersham) and Gilbey’s fabulous Lemon Tart (both sites).

Fantastically affordable, Gilbey’s set menus are on offer at both restaurants starting at just £15 for two courses and £20 for three courses during lunch, with evening set menus at £22.50 for two courses and £28.50 for three courses.

For a special occasion, choose one of Gilbey’s private dining spaces where the teams will give you the very best of celebrations with their seamless service and choice of party menus. The Gallery Private Dining Room in Eton comes complete with its own Cactus Room and garden. Suitable for parties of up to 34 guests, it has been receiving incredible reviews. There is a second Upstairs Private Dining Room at Eton, overlooking the High Street, which has space for up to 16 guests. Gilbey’s Old Amersham gorgeous Upstairs Private Dining Room seats up to 12 guests and overlooks the garden and Market Square.

GILBEY’s DRINKS

Drinks have a very special focus at both restaurants with wine being a particular passion of Michael Gilbey. Alongside excellent varieties from around the world you will find a focus on French wines imported directly from individual growers whom Michael has personally sought out on his frequent travels around France. The better the wine you drink the better the value too as Gilbey’s fixed price wine mark ups make sure of this. Alongside wines, there is a plentiful list of spirits, cocktails and local beers from the Eton and Windsor Brewery.
