How Rolex Established Itself at the Upper Echelon of Luxury Watches
Rolex is a Swiss luxury watchmaker with a story that originally began in London, more than 100 years ago. While operations remained in the United Kingdom for the first few years of the company’s existence by 1919, it had relocated its headquarters back to where it belongs in Geneva, Switzerland.
In 1925, Rolex established the all-famous crown logo and from there on out was added to every single timepiece produced by the company as a symbol of superb quality and excellence.
Awards and Accolades
Rolex has achieved many great things on its journey to becoming one of the most prestigious watchmakers in the world. While many of these are pure publicity stunts and nothing else, others are world firsts and part of what helped establish the brand at the upper echelon of the luxury watch industry.
Just take a look for yourself:
● 1910: One of the brand’s earliest accolades to date is being awarded the Official Chronometer Certification from the Bureau Officiel. It was the first time ever for a wristwatch to be awarded this.
● 1947: Chuck Yeager takes to the skies and becomes the first man ever to break the sound barrier, all while wearing his Rolex.
● 1956: This year saw the brand release the world’s first “anti-magnetic” watch – the Oyster Perpetual Milgauss.
● 2007: Alain Hubert took his Rolex to North Greenland where he and his partner successfully mapped a new route to cross the Artic. Where previous explorers had written off this area as being nothing more than miles of thick ice, Hubert found areas of broken ice and lapping sea.
In addition to the numerous awards and accolades Rolex has achieved over its lifetime, there are other factors at play which have helped the company gain traction in followers. The first of which is it’s reliability.
While the Rolex may not be quite as intricate and complicated as some of its competitors, the one thing that this brand can offer in spades is consistency. Anyone who owns one of these watches will tell you, they’re more reliable than pretty much any other mechanical watch you’re likely to come across.
Every watch that comes from the Rolex factory has undergone a plethora of quality control tests to ensure its nothing less than perfect. It has its own science lab equipped with enough liquids gases and other materials to develop the best manufacturing techniques. And, there’s even a stress test room to make sure your Rolex is fit to withstand the true test of time.
Taking all that into consideration, it’s pretty clear to see why Rolex are so highly regarded as a luxury watchmaker.
The internet is a wonderful place for sourcing a variety of classic watches by Rolex. And the great thing about this brand is that it has quite a wide range, meaning there’s something for pretty much everyone to be found. It’s just a case of doing some research into the type of Rolex that best suits your style.
