We talk to Sara Gharachorloo, Founder of The Pooches Playhouse, about its services as it wins a title in the Pet Products and Services Awards 2023. The Pooches Playhouse is a doggy daycare centre with a difference, it is a place that offers expert care at any time – providing care even throughout the night. In relation to night time care, and speaking of her own experience with boarding, The Pooches Playhouse’s Founder, Sara, says, “That was something important to me, having my dogs stay somewhere that they can be crate free and comfortable with a human all night. So that's exactly what we offer, a crate free option/experience with a human that stays over night with the dogs.” Sara had only dreamed of opening her own doggy day care/boarding business since she was 20 years old. She lost her full time job in 2018 and she took this time as an opening for following her dreams – especially as her grandfather, who passed away the same day, had always encouraged her to pursue what she believes in. She adds, “That day had a huge impact on my life, and I decided I could always go back into the corporate world, but I would take the time now to start the daycare from home – and that's exactly what I did. Now, 5 years later, we’re in a 4000 square foot facility in Scarborough!” “I then asked my mother after a year to please quit her job and help me with the business, she asked if I was certain. She trusted me and left her full time job to help me run the business. It was a lot of hard work and dedication, lots of missed time with friends and missed events but it was all worth it.” Sara is extremely experienced in the care of dogs, and she knows exactly what makes them feel comfortable. She gained her certification in Canine Social Behaviour through the IAABC, and always has an understanding of what they need to experience an enriching environment, through physical and mental stimulation, Sara and her team lead the way for other professionals to follow. Her 12 staff members – and growing – all get along very well, which allows the business to flow efficiently and successfully. She says, “The staff all get along great and even hang out together outside of work, they love playing with all the pups and even bring in their dogs to daycare.” “All the staff are pet parents themselves, and I believe this makes a difference in our success as they love all the dogs as if they were their own. It's the most beautiful and heart-warming thing to see them smile as they play and interact with the pups and how excited all the pups get when they come in and see their favourite staff members, they literally race to them! My staff are wonderful, and it took a while to find the amazing people we now have – but this is a team I absolutely am so proud of!” All of Sara’s team members are CPR and first aid trained for the care of our furry family members, and they offer weekly activities such as circus day, bubble days, pool days, and much more, so that the dogs they care for can get involved in a variety of enrichment activities. The Pooches Playhouse has now won Most Trusted Dog Daycare & Boarding Facility 2023 – Ontario for its hard work. 2023, and beyond, looks incredibly promising for the business as it continuously creates an environment where our pets can thrive. Sara tells us, “With our growing popularity and all the events we have planned for the pups to say I'm very excited for the year to come is an understatement.
