LUX - August 2017 29 A Continuity of Care Nielsen Clinic first opened its doors in Calgary, in 2005 providing homeopathic medicine, acupuncture and counselling. Dr. Vijay Nielsen has been practicing in Calgary, Alberta since 2005. Dr. Nielsen approaches his patient’s health in a col- laborative approach both, with doctors in house and physicians from other clinics. He goes on to expand this point, adding the reasons why their clients choose them, as well as his thoughts on both homeopathy and integrative medicine (IM). “While I treat a broad range of health disorders, I am mainly known for women’s health concerns (including hormonal conditions, fertility, endometriosis, and PCOS) and dermatology (including acne, eczema, psoriasis, and hives)” says Dr. Vijay Nielsen. “Our clients choose us because we integrate our treatment options, matching their health care needs. Additionally, we find a lot of our clients come to us as they have tried many other therapies and either hear about us through a friend of a friend, or they get referred to us from physicians”. “At the clinic, one of the services we provide is homeopathy. This is a system of medicine that uses micro-doses of natural substances - to provide therapeutic similitude - by individualising treatment for the patient. “In integrative medicine (IM), we use supplements and herbs based on the latest research to help improve patient outcomes. For example, we use an amino acid with our female patients who are receiving IVF, that is proven to help induce ovulation at a higher rate as opposed to solely using traditional treatments.” Dr. Nielsen then reveals how Nielsen Clinic provides the best possible service to clients and reveals what he most enjoys about his job. “Part of our success is that we keep up with the fast-changing pace of medicine and to know the health conditions that we treat inside out which giving us the flexibility to think outside the box and to find a natural drug free solution for our clients. I spend 8-10 hours every week reading the latest research publica- tions from various journals, to find a way to cut down treatment time, as well as to help improve outcomes”. “One of the best parts of my job is having the imag- ination to use all the data out there in the scientific world and integrate it into a clinic setting. When it comes to our clients, I strongly believe in a continuity of care, which is where we provide a service level unmatched by other clinics.” While most clinics have a user fee (either yearly or monthly) to access after hour care, Nielsen Clinic does not believe in charging additional fees Dr. Niels- en explains. He also turns his thoughts towards the wider industry at present and how this impacts upon the clinic’s work. “We view our clients as a community, so we do not want to put up barriers for them to receive the best possible care. I think that if my client is investing in their own health, then I can help meet their needs in this regard by taking a part in their wellbeing, when they are in need. “Our clients have access to me via email after hours, as this helps them get the attention and help they need for their conditions, without having to wait till the clinic is open again. So, our philosophy is simply to forget the extra charges, because we already have enough of that in our world. “In terms of the wider industry, I would say that med- icine is always changing. There is a perspective that integrative medicine is based on ancient principles. However, what is exciting about homeopathy and Nielsen Clinic provides homeopathic medicine, acupuncture and counselling. After their success in achieving the Best Holistic Health Centre – Calgary, as part of the LUX Health, Beauty & Wellness Awards, we interviewed the clinic’s Dr. Vijay Nielsen to discover more. A Continuity of Care ose us because we integrate ptions, matching their health Additionally, we find a lot of come to us as they have tried rapies and either hear about friend of a friend, or they get rred to us from physicians”. integrative medicine research, is that it can help with challenging disorders such as infertility, endometrio- sis, PCOS, eczema and allergies.” In closing, Dr. Nielsen paints a picture of the future, including any exciting developments on the horizon. “There are so many projects that I have been working on, but one of the main ones I have invested time in, is developing a website that focuses on women’s health. However, this website is designed to help provide patients around the world the ability to access me via virtual video consultation, from the comfort of their home, without the need to fight traffic and take more time off work. Best of all, I just love how technology can help patients find the right doctor for their health concern, so I would love to be a part of their healthcare. “Another project I have been working on, is in developing lectures to help physicians and healthcare providers use homeopathy and functional medicine in their practice, without the need to over analyse cases. “Finally, when human beings experience a change in their health, it is not uncommon for them to feel that their lives are becoming unravelled. My great passion is not only to help bring healing to those who are look- ing for an effective drug-free approach, but to help individuals who have ‘tried everything’. I would love to help them to both regain and restore their health. “Since every individual is unique, I ensure that my ap- proach fits the patients’ needs and is maximised, by providing both homeopathy and functional medicine. With my balanced approach of integrating traditional medical science with alternative medicine, I help my patients navigate the healthcare process, so they can find the best possible choice for their healthcare.” Company name: Nielsen Clinic Contact: Dr. Vijay Nielsen, DMS HD Address: 224, 1919 Sirocco Drive SW, Calgary AB, T3H 2Y3 Canada Email:
