Superyacht Australia is thrilled to announce the launch of the Sydney Charter Show, to be held for the first time in 2026 at Sydney’s Jones Bay Superyacht Marina. Australia is home to the largest charter fleet in the Asia-Pacific region, making it the obvious choice to host the region’s premiere Charter Show. The exclusive, invitation-only two-day event, will be held on Sunday 22 and Monday 23 February, creating a dedicated platform to showcase the superyacht charter industry across Australia and the South Pacific, while positioning Sydney Harbour as a premier global charter destination. Launch of the Sydney Charter Show Showcases Australia and the South Pacific as a World-Class Superyacht Destination Building on the success of five consecutive years of the highly regarded Superyacht Australia Soirée, the evolution into a full-scale Charter Show is driven by strong demand from vessels and brokers, to provide greater opportunities to engage with current and prospective clients. Originally established to introduce guests to the world of charter and yacht ownership, the Soirée has laid the groundwork for the Sydney Charter Show. The new event will retain the purpose of the Soirée while offering an extended format, giving brokers and vessels more time to showcase yachts to existing and potential charter clients. Jones Bay Wharf will also be activated with exhibitors featuring luxury brand partners, destination partners and superyacht service providers. The Sydney Charter Show will be co-located with the Australian Superyacht Conference, traditionally held on the Gold Coast in May. These two flagship events will be held immediately prior to Sail GP in Sydney, a period that typically sees increased superyacht visitation and international industry attendance. This will create an exciting week of marine industry events and activities in Sydney, which then leads into a big Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne! The Charter Show will illuminate premier cruising destinations along Australia’s expansive coastline and throughout the South Pacific and the vessels available to charter these regions. It will highlight the region’s unique appeal with vast, untouched waters and extraordinary opportunities for discovery, often experienced in complete seclusion. Complementing its natural beauty, the region boasts strong tourism experiences, political stability and a rich diversity of cultures and heritage. With advanced infrastructure, extensive industry expertise and the capability to host and service the largest yachts, Australia and the South Pacific will be showcased as leading destinations on the global charter stage. The introduction of the Sydney Charter Show marks an exciting new chapter for the regions superyacht industry, celebrating future potential of Australia and the South Pacific in the global charter market.
Two strong currents will define autumn’s interior design looks according to Homebuilding & Renovating expert Julia Kendell, owner of kitchen design company Kendell + Co. Those two currents are: the cocooning instinct, which urges us to retreat into warmth and comfort, and the desire for spectacle, where interiors become a stage for storytelling. The merging of these influences results in spaces that are at once nurturing and glamorous, homes that anchor us in nature while allowing a touch of flamboyance to delight the senses. A Return to Warmth Trend forecasters at colour specialists Pantone and consumer analysts WGSN highlight palettes that draw directly from the Autumn landscape with ochre, clay and terracotta paired with deep forest green and earthy brown. These hues are balanced with muted blush and soft mushroom tones, offering sophistication without heaviness. The psychology is clear as we seek refuge from uncertainty, we gravitate towards colours that promise comfort and stability. Earth tones bring reassurance, while russet and ochre inject a sense of vitality and optimism. Layers of Touch Texture remains the most compelling design tool of the season. Knits and velvety finishes bring a cocooning tactility, while raw timbers, natural stone and brushed metals prevent schemes from tipping into Autumn Design Trends: Cocooning in Splendour for Autumn the overly-polished. Designers are layering chunky knits with fine wool, and rustic sisal with silk-edged rugs, proving that opposites can, when carefully curated, feel perfectly harmonious. Sustainability continues to drive material choices, with a preference for natural fibres and artisan finishes that carry both environmental and emotional value. Sculptural Warmth As nights draw in, lighting becomes the mood-setter. Statement table lamps, diffused wall-lights and chandeliers with sculptural silhouettes are taking precedence over stark overhead downlighting. Amber-toned glass, aged brass, and smoked finishes bring depth and atmosphere, while flexible schemes encourage an interplay of shadow and glow, crucial for creating that layered, intimate feel. Craft Meets Comfort Furniture silhouettes this season favour the generous and the enveloping with deep, low-slung sofas, rounded armchairs upholstered in tactile fabrics and dining tables with artisan-carved bases. Stone continues its dominance in kitchens and bathrooms, with dramatic veining delivering a sense of permanence and luxury. The Rise of ‘Castlecore’ If Autumn’s grounded palette represents our desire for stability, the Castlecore trend taps into our craving for glamour and fantasy. Fuelled by period dramas such as Outrageous and The Gilded Age, interiors are seeing a resurgence of drapery, trimmings, and unapologetic ornament. Think sweeping curtains edged with tassels, fringed cushions piled high, and gilded accents that catch the candlelight. This is not about recreating the past, but about reinterpreting grandeur for contemporary living. Rich velvets in jewel tones, embroidered silks, and decorative mouldings add theatricality, while still sitting comfortably alongside the season’s earthy base colours. The effect creates a layered, romantic interior celebrating both heritage and modern craftsmanship. Julia Kendell will be speaking at the London Homebuilding & Renovating Show, 19-21 September, Excel. Click here for free show tickets: https:// www.homebuildingshow.co.uk/pr-general-outlets.

8 | LUXlife Magazine n the depths of the 14th century, Arbroath Abbey’s monks built a sturdy sandstone tower house on Ethie’s current site. This is where they lived and thrived for many years until the de Maxwell family owned the dwelling. The years that passed saw the property’s possession move from the monks through to the de Maxwell family and back again. After this change of hands, in 1524, Scotland’s only and last Cardinal, David Beaton born in Balfour in Fife in 1494, and his family shared the site with the Pope’s permission to do so. Cardinal Beaton had studied at the University of Glasgow and St. Andrews before becoming a monk at Arbroath Abbey – in addition to a member of Parliament In the 1530s the beginning of major renovations were carried out and the castle went under its first transformational period. The extensions added to the courtyard, in preparation for King James V’s visit, were carried out by Cardinal Beaton to ensure the king’s stay was immaculate in quality. In 1539, Cardinal Beaton became Archbishop of St Andrews. Unfortunately, in 1546, Cardinal Beaton was murdered by Protestants in St Andrews during the Reformation. Now, the tale as old as time – in relation to the castle’s own timeline – it is said that during the Reformation the abbots hid the silver treasure from Arbroath Abbey within the castle walls. When Ethie was bought by the Carnegie family, who later became the Earls of Northesk, in 1665, it was given a new lease of life. As the 7th Earl of Northesk, also Vice Admiral under the command of Admiral Lord Nelson during the battle of Trafalgar in 1805, the castle can still be found with the coat of armes featuring Trafalgar in its design. This proudly hangs in the former window in Ethie Castle to remind all team members and guests of the deeply rooted history of the site. 1927 saw the castle and its ground purchased by artist and antiques collector, William Cunningham Hector of Glasgow, however when he and his family vacated the property they removed all of the decadent furniture the castle had held in its walls. This magnificent castle is said to have provided a whimsical yet solid wave of inspiration for Sir Walter Scott’s novel the Antiquary due to the featured described which echo throughout the story. As Sir Walter Scott was a close friend of William Carnegie, the 8th Earl of Northesk, he had stayed many a time in the beating heart of the structure. Following the sale of the castle by the Cunningham family, the property Best Boutique Historic Castle Retreat 2025 – Scotland Ethie Castle is home to a rich history steeped in centuries of memories. The records of the castle even go back to the early 13th century. Since the nearby shallow Lunan Bay offered a perfect opportunity for landing, the Vikings are said to have built a house on the site where Ethie was built. Completely transformed by Roland Zettel from November 2013 to the present day, the castle has become a truly opulent location for any event, sporting experience, and stay. We spoke with Roland Zettel to learn more following the castle’s prestigious award in our Resorts and Retreats Awards this year. I
Autumn 2025 | 9 passed through very many hands until the 1960s when the Forsyth family resided there. Alistair Forsyth, who was Chief of the Forsyth Clan, had plans to rebuild and renovate much of the castle with minor changes until the 1970s when he moved to New Zealand. Once Alistair Forsyth had vacated the castle, the de Morgan family took over the ownership of Ethie Castle to convert it into a B&B hotel with three characterful rooms. As this enchanted castle charms all upon their arrival and throughout their stay, spanning centuries of intricate history, Roland Zettel, Earl of Wigtoun, Lord and Baron of Cumbernauld, was honoured to become the new owner following the de Morgan family’s departure. This 14th century castle nestled in Inverkeilor in Scotland, near the coast, has been home to many families. Having changed hands countless times over the years, the castle has seen many memories being made and witnessed the bittersweet ups and downs of humans throughout its history. Having been lovingly restored in recent years, by Owner Roland, Ethie Castle has become a place of unparalleled beauty for a myriad of guests year upon year. The impressive structure has been transformed from its ancient beginnings from many years gone before, including its prominent wings and towers as well as the overall character of such a prominent attraction, into a cosy and welcoming place to stay. As the castle is filled with such historical importance, Roland has done all he can to ensure the building has kept its character and features while doing more than restoring it. He has created an elevated space where all guests can feel happy and comfortable throughout their stay. The castle’s association with Cardinal Beaton is still prominent, as it includes a small chapel and the Cardinal’s Sitting Room, with a secret staircase to the Great Hall above. Guests can continue to enjoy countless mysterious and fulfilling moments during their visit by learning much more about the history of this special place. With many aesthetically and architecturally intricate and historical features, including four turnpike staircases, balustraded tower, turrets and crow stepped gables, the castle has a lot to offer. Furthermore, the barrel vaulted rooms, together with panelled rooms, decorative plaster work, fireplaces and window shutters all provide an insight into the history associated with the castle. Roland is more than happy to talk guests through the history of the castle each time they visit, to create an immersive experience of the luxurious and complex building. However, so much more than a building, this outstanding castle is a place for historical and personal discovery as guests can dive deep into the history of the place as well as their inner selves. Roland’s team are dedicated individuals always searching for new ways to make their guests feel comfortable, cosy, relaxed, and recharged. They introduce the history of the place, and what it currently offers, so that everyone can make what they want out of their stay. Roland told that his staff are elf-responsible people who always look after other team members as well as guests. This means that everyone is on the same page and providing the best service humanly possible by working harmoniously together. From falconry to salmon fishing, shooting sports – including clay shooting – golf, hunting and more, Ethie Castle has so many immersive experiences to offer. With St. Andrews’ golf course only 1 hour away, and Glen Eagles’ course 1.5 hours away, golfers of all abilities can enjoy the sport just a stone’s throw away from the retreat. Additionally, for those interested in sumptuous whisky and gin tasting, Ethie Castle is the best place to experience Angus’ own distillers and distilleries producing an excellent range of Scottish whisky and gin – and a wider range of spirits to try. Roland is able to arrange visits to a number of these renowned and experienced distilleries for guided tours to see exactly how the beautifully crafted spirits are created, including a taste of a range of products. Atop this, as Arbroath is an ideal place to enjoy tasting authentic spirits made locally, the arrangements made by Roland and his team always result in a fine experience for any spirit enthusiast. Ethie Castle is the perfect romantic location for weddings in addition to other special events for memorable, moments. Roland is set to introduce even more innovative ideas for weddings and celebratory events in the years to come, to ensure that individuals, couples, families, and groups of all kinds will cherish the time they spend at the outstanding castle. As people actively select this award-winning retreat for their special day, couples can enjoy their very own fairytale story in the castle and on a private country estate. For a wedding or civil ceremony, Ethie Castle has so much to offer, with its staff working tirelessly in the background to make dreams come true. They streamline everything so that everything runs smooth on the big day, and many of the castle’s activities are available to enrich the day for each couple and their guests. As the castle offers ten rooms, with nine offering ensuite bathrooms and one with its own bathroom in the hallway, this is the best setting to host your closest loved ones wishing to stay after your ceremony. You can be together to create memories to last a lifetime when you choose Ethie Castle for your wedding or civil partnership. Of course, you can also soak up the atmosphere and surroundings, and capture those magical photos for your special day. In light of Ethie Castle’s award of Best Boutique Historic Castle Retreat 2025 – Scotland, Roland continues to plan what is to come next for the lavish retreat. He would like to offer digital detoxification and disconnection from the outer world to people, especially for men experiencing divorce. He plans on creating a space where there are no mobile phones or connections with the outer world, so that individuals can immerse themselves in the beauty of the castle and its natural surroundings, ensuring they can ‘switch off’ from the bustle and noise of their daily lives. Roland will also work tirelessly to help more people to enjoy the castle while being offered snooker lessons and games, expert shoe cleaning lessons, and so much more. With these unique and interesting plans in the pipeline, the future of Ethie Castle continues to blossom well into the years – and even centuries – ahead of it. 14 | LUXlife Magazine ore than a quarter of a century building and managing international teams to deliver flawless experiences within the superyacht industry taught Alice Widdows all there is to know about going above and beyond to leave the customer satisfied. Having served superyacht owners and their guests – including princesses and presidents – in some of the most glamourous destinations worldwide, it is fair to say that Alice today knows luxury experiences like the back of her hand. Alice told us: “I appreciate the importance and privilege of seeing the rich tapestry of life. The diversity of human relationships across countries and cultures. In building happy, inclusive communities and productive teams I am inspired to seek contrasting experiences and perspectives to challenge and improve our collective work.” Simultaneously, Alice, like all women, has been on her own personal health journey over the course of her life, the last 15 years of which have seen her walk the long road to healing from decades of burnout and mental exhaustion. Alice has spent thousands of pounds in search of health, happiness, and harmony over this period, and has been on health and wellness retreats from Mayr to Puerto Rico, picking up tips and tricks as she goes. Wynyard Therapy in many ways is an amalgamation of these experiences, offering its clients the very best in hair, body, and skin treatments sourced from around the world. From its location in the garden village of Wynyard in Country Durham, this salon/skin clinic specialises in everything from eye and brow treatments to advanced facials and medical aesthetics. These services are delivered by a qualified and talented team all fully trained in the latest industry trends and treatments. “Wynyard Therapy is at the forefront of innovation and education with a focus on investment in training, technology, and techniques that go beyond seasonal trends.” Exploring this further, Alice explained: “Our team of employed, experienced professionals include advanced skin practitioners, hair stylists, beauty therapists, and even dentists, all of whom are immensely skilled and passionate about their respective craft.” The result is that every client is greeted with a luxury wellness experience every time they step foot in the salon, something reflected in both the consistent five-star reviews Wynyard Therapy receives as well as its numerous industry awards. Best Beauty Treatments Provider 2025 – North East & LUXlife Client Service Excellence Award 2025 Most figures in the health and beauty industry do not have a background working with superyachts, but then none of them are quite like Alice Widdows. Having spent more than 25 years serving ultra-high-net-worth individuals and working with luxury brands, Alice has come to know the recipe behind excellence, discretion, and results. Today, she brings this dedication and skill to Wynyard Therapy, a hair and beauty salon renowned for its unique SKIN CLUB® subscription service. We caught up with Alice to find out more about her diverse ventures. On top of this, clients also benefit from the use of leading brands across their appointments and treatments, with just some of the labels being favoured across Wynyard Therapy’s portfolio including L’Oreal Professional, Alumier MD, Remi Cachet, and Nouveau Beauty. Champagne from Moet & Chandon is the cherry on top – a reflection of the luxury that every element of this experience both strives for and delivers on. Nowhere is this better seen than through the aforementioned SKIN CLUB, a pioneering and exclusive subscription service that makes high-end skincare accessible to everyone. This membership is available for men and women alike, with its affordable annual price including an initial consultation, a customised skincare plan, advanced facial treatments, a free Alumier MD starter kit (worth £200), and exclusive discounts. More information about SKIN CLUB, including how to sign up, can be found here. Offerings such as SKIN CLUB also allow Wynyard Therapy to contribute to charities like NELD North East Ladies Day, which has been supporting local causes since 1983. A patron of NELD, Alice’s drive to give back to the community is something else that sets her apart as a leader and distinguishes her salon from the competition. Finally, reflecting on the duo of her awards her business has won in this programme, Alice said: “At Wynyard Therapy, we believe in creating elevated experiences with a truly personalised touch – we go above and beyond to make each guest feel special, valued, and that they belong.” It is our pleasure to reward this dedication, championing both its salon and its SKIN CLUB® subscription service for their innovation. As a globally recognised brand, Princess Yachts Australia stands tall as a suitable choice for adventurous individuals, couples, and families looking for their next era of sophisticated exploration and memory making. Although this multi-award-winning business is a globally renowned brand, its team ensure that their family values and approach as a locally owned business – with a personal touch – continues to keep its clients satisfied and nurtured. Sharing his advice with aspiring and budding luxury companies, Greg commented: “My advice would be to understand that working in the luxury sector is about far more than selling high-value products, it’s about delivering an experience that is flawless from start to finish. Success comes from building genuine relationships, having an eye for detail, and always going the extra mile. You must be adaptable, discreet, and committed to excellence in everything you do. Most importantly, take the time to truly understand your clients – their values, their lifestyle, and their expectations and then find ways to exceed them every single time.” Always innovating and planning new ways, Princess Yachts Australia stays ahead of the curve in its industry. Providing a luxury yacht to a wide variety of high net worth and ultra-high net worth buyers is just one of its goals, with the others centred around its development of strong partnerships and delivering a service that clients will never forget. Greg added: “Luxury is about time well spent and the freedom to enjoy life’s finest moments without compromise. It’s not just about the yacht itself, but the experiences it creates – sharing a sunset with family, exploring new destinations, and knowing every detail has been considered. Luxury is in the craftsmanship you can see and the service you can feel, where quality, comfort, and connection come together seamlessly.” By combining renowned British craftsmanship with innovative onboard technology, Princess Yachts Australia keeps itself head and shoulders above the competition. Fully embracing sustainability developments, in addition to advanced technology and personalised design, the company will continue to meet and exceed its clients’ expectations. Especially in relation to the next generation of luxury yacht buyers, Princess Yachts Australia consistently refines its services and offerings to ensure it is more than relevant but ahead of trends and patterns in its industry. Above all, our focus is on building lasting client relationships, delivering exceptional after-sales care, and curating experiences that reflect the elegance, performance, and innovation synonymous with the Princess name.” The company has received many owner testimonials off the back of its devoted approach to only providing the most prestigious yachts. Jan and Mike Becker (Princess 52 Delta Flyer owners) enthused: “When you buy a Princess, you are welcomed into the family, which means support, care, and being surrounded by passionate people. Greg and Scott have put Princess back on the map in Australia, and Andy knows everything about engineering – we have learnt so much!” Additionally, Steve Wooldridge (Princess V65 Solis owner for 20+ years) said: “We’ve been in the Princess family for 20 years. Quality and craftsmanship, but above all, the service, support, the Princess Yachts Australia service is second to none. this experience was ‘just incredible!’” For the future, Princess Yachts Australia’s team plan to continue contributing to this opulent sector of luxury lifestyle through yacht ownership. This is exactly why we’re so delighted to award the company with its accolade this year. Contact: Greg Haines Company: Princess Yachts Australia Website: https://www.princessyachts.com.au/
