His music is also available through digital download and audio streaming through the majority of audio streaming and media service providers, including YouTube Music, Apple Music, Spotify, Amazon Music, and Bandcamp. Most Passionate Ambient Musician (Japan): Jutaro Takahashi Ambient music is a unique genre of music known for emphasising tone and atmosphere over traditional musical structure or rhythm. At its core, ambient music is calming and peaceful allowing many individuals to regain control and posture in times of stress. The genre has become increasingly popular in recent years, partly due to an uncertain global landscape causing perturbance and a rising interest in wellness practices. We take a closer look at the music of Juta Takahashi below, a rising name in ambience music managed by Lunisolar Records and a deserving recipient in the Creative and Visual Arts Awards 2024. This blended approach of physical and digital sales is an advantageous way to navigate this landscape. CD sales have been decreasing as many consumers opt to pay for digital music subscription services in these more modern times. To combat this decline, Lunisolar Records ensures that Juta’s music is distributed to as many audio streaming and media service providers as possible, collaborating with numerous music distributors including CD Baby. At the same time, the label understands the nostalgia and authenticity that comes with physically owning music and strives to ensure that it continues to provide this joy to Juta’s physical audience. By distributing his music through numerous avenues, Lunisolar Records enables fans to listen and connect with Juta, regardless of their location or listening preferences. Juta Takahashi was born in Miyagi, Japan, in 1959. From his childhood to becoming a teenager, he lived in Aomori. As he grew up, Juta lead a life deeply defined by an unfaltering love for music and creation. This L
Creative & Visual Arts 2024 | 5 began when he first listened to Pictures at an Exhibition by Isao Tomita and Heaven and Hell by Vangelis in his teen years. Juta began to explore progressive rock and synthesiser music that were hailed as avant-garde for its time, finding the likes of Pink Floyd and ELP. As he began to love synth music more and more, he was determined to play himself, but it was expensive at the time. Instead, Juta visited music shops to play and develop his skillset. He then went to Tokyo to continue his studies, and his career as a musician started shortly thereafter. Now, Juta lives in Sendai, Miyagi, and produces music using synthesisers and computers as an independent musician. Initially, Juta was drawn to the guitar and played music such as King Crimson’s, that valued improvisation. Gradually, he started to transition to electronic music before he became wholly devoted to the sound, majorly impacted by electronic and ambient musicians, such as Brian Eno, Harold Budd, Vangelis, and Pete Namlook. Across the Flow, Juta’s first commercial album, was released in August of 2007. He has released 18 original albums since 2007, with his seventh album in 2010, Hymn, claimed to be his true masterpiece by fans around the world. Juta’s latest album, Journey, was released in August of 2024, and each new album released over the years has demonstrated his progress and mastery of the ambience genre. Juta’s music composition consists of improvisation, not programming, and his work is characterised by his love for analogue instruments. His lifelong passion for his craft has resulted in music that is beautiful, calm, emotional, and melodious, expertly designed to evoke heightened emotions in his audience. One such example of this remarkable ability can be found in a beautifully descriptive message written to Juta by a fan, proudly displayed on his website. “Hello, Mr. Takahashi,” begins Mr. Hutchings, “I wanted to write and compliment you on your track Seabound, which I first heard on StillStream Radio today. It is divine! I love to doze off to ambient music, while I create an accompanying vision in my head. In this case, I imagined a futuristic, crystalline marina, gleaming with innumerable reflections from a moon that overhung a deep azure blue sea: perfectly still, tranquil, and just a little sad. I particularly like how the chords become deeper and ‘hollower’ towards the end. Regards, Joseph Hutchings.” LUXlife magazine holds the Creative and Visual Arts Awards to celebrate the most innovative artists and creative dreamers, truly the very best of the creative world. Juta has dedicated his life to perfecting his craft and sharing his magnificent music with the world. For his pure talent and unwavering commitment to music, significantly shaping the landscape of the ambient music genre, Juta Takahashi has been awarded the title of the Most Passionate Ambient Musician in Japan. We at LUXlife would like to congratulate Juta on this monumental achievement and cannot wait to see what is next for this visionary virtuoso. Her journey began in her early twenties when she started working in fashion, and co-founded Divino Models, an international modelling agency, whose portfolio included numerous achievements such as models walking the runways of Versace and making appearances at the illustrious Milan Fashion Week or gracing the cover of Vogue. Driven by an unwavering passion for creativity, entrepreneurship and design, Aida ventured further, establishing BRAVO STUDIO® in order to craft compelling graphic designs, defining brand identities, and crafting captivating web experiences. Her work transcends boundaries, resonating with audiences across diverse industries and countries. While the name of the studio may be Aida’ surname, it also reflects her career journey. In Spanish, the word “bravo” means “brave” and it was chosen to honour the courageous entrepreneurs who take the leap to start their own projects – this act of bravery is something which Aida deeply admires and she is committed to providing the creative tools and guidance needed to turn their visions into reality. At Bravo Studio®, the underlying mission is to help entrepreneurs and brands transform their visions into reality by crafting impactful designs and creating memorable experiences that resonate with their audiences. AIS-Dec24007 Most Innovative Beauty & Fashion Brand Design Agency – Spain Bravo Studio® prides itself on providing everything a company needs all in one place. From design and digital marketing to social media and advertising, the design agency aims to assist companies in reaching their ideal audience with tailored strategies and expert guidance. We find out more about the firm, and its ethos, from Founder Aida Bravo as it gains notable recognition in the Creative and Visual Arts Awards 2024. Aida and the team aim to empower businesses with thoughtful, visually striking solutions that combine creativity and strategy, enabling them to stand out in their industries. To achieve this goal, a collaborative process is employed that begins with understanding each client's unique needs, goals, and values. Bravo Studio® takes the time to research their industry and audience, ensuring every design decision aligns with their vision. From initial brainstorming to final delivery, this approach is deeply rooted in attention to detail, clear communication, and a passion for excellence. “Creativity is the heart of everything we do at Bravo Studio®,” Aida continues. “We integrate it into every project by approaching challenges with an open mind and a fresh perspective. Whether designing a logo, building a brand identity, or creating a web experience, we infuse our work with originality and emotion, ensuring each piece tells a story and evokes a connection.” Aida runs us through the design process which involves blending aesthetics with strategy, drawing inspiration from art, culture, music, and fashion. Experimenting with colors, typography, and visual elements creates designs that are not only beautiful but also functional and meaningful. “By staying curious, embracing innovation, and constantly refining our skills, we ensure that creativity drives every decision we make.” In a fiercely competitive industry, it is imperative that Bravo Studio® differentiates itself and stands out from the crowd. It achieves this, in part, with its ability to blend years of experience in design and styling with a deeply personalised and collaborative approach, with its unique selling point lying in its commitment to crafting designs that are both visually compelling and strategically aligned with its clients’ goals. Every project undertaken at the studio is approached with the same dedication to excellence - whether it’s creating a cohesive brand identity, designing a website, or developing promotional materials, taking the time to understand each client’s unique vision and audience ensures that the work is authentic, impactful, and meaningful. “What truly differentiates Bravo Studio® is our holistic approach,” enthuses Aida. “Drawing inspiration from diverse industries like fashion,
Creative & Visual Arts 2024 | 7 music, and business, we create designs that tell a story and resonate emotionally with audiences. Clients choose us because they know they will receive not only a creative partner but also a thoughtful, reliable collaborator who truly cares about their success.” Currently, the design and branding industry in Spain is vibrant and highly creative, with a strong focus on innovation and aesthetics. However, like many creative sectors, it is influenced by fluctuating economic conditions, evolving digital trends, and increased competition as businesses seek to stand out in an ever-expanding global market. In Spain specifically, many small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are realising the importance of professional branding and digital presence, creating a growing demand for quality design services. Aida tells us that one of the challenges in the local market is that many businesses prioritise cost over quality, often leading them to opt for generic solutions that fail to create lasting impressions. “This is where Bravo Studio® sees an opportunity,” she continues. “By offering tailored, high-quality design solutions that resonate globally, we position ourselves as a partner for clients seeking impactful branding rather than just another service provider.” Since most of our clients are international, the studio navigates the challenges of working across cultures and time zones by maintaining excellent communication and a flexible approach. This has allowed it to turn potential obstacles into opportunities, building a diverse portfolio that spans not only industries but countries too. Additionally, the rapid growth of digitalisation and e-commerce offers endless opportunities for creativity for the studio. Many businesses now seek strong visual identities to differentiate themselves online, and the firm actively capitalises on this by crafting designs that align with global trends while maintaining a timeless appeal. By staying adaptable and forward-thinking, plus engaging in continuous education, it continues to thrive in an ever-changing industry landscape. Internal culture is also of the utmost importance and, at Bravo Studio®, this revolves around creativity, collaboration, and continuous growth. As both a designer and a certified health coach, Aida brings a holistic approach to her work, blending design expertise with coaching services to help clients thrive both visually and personally. A collaborative environment is fostered and innovation is encouraged, with diverse perspectives - from art disciplines like painting and music to wellness practices - informing the creative process. Flexibility, empathy, and a commitment to continuous learning ensure Aida and the team stay aligned with client needs while fostering growth and success for the company. This multifaceted approach creates a dynamic, supportive culture where creativity and personal growth are always a priority. For its dedication and commitment, Bravo Studio® was recently rewarded in the eminent Creative and Visual Arts Awards 2024 and was bestowed with the title of Most Innovative Beauty & Fashion Brand Design Agency – Spain for its work. Now, Aida tells us that the future of Bravo Studio® is incredibly exciting as it continues to expand on its already extensive range of services and explore new creative horizons. In 2025, Aida plans to push her coaching services further, offering an innovative approach that integrates design, wellness, and personal growth. This aligns perfectly with her dual passion for design and health coaching, helping clients not just build their brands but also elevate their lives. The studio is also diving deeper into one of Aida’s favourite niches - music. New collaborations and projects with talented artists are already in the works, allowing the studio to shape compelling visual identities in this dynamic field. Finally, a range of online courses and resources tailored for creatives and business owners are being launched. These will cover topics like design, branding, and business strategies, equipping clients with the tools they need to succeed. This then enabled her to continue developing her craft in the Northern landscapes of Cumbria, originally a printmaker of etchings and stone lithography but now primarily a painter. Now, Julia’s main focus is on serving as a beacon of inspiration for her students, sharing her love of art with the world. “ “I believe that art is for everyone,” she tells us. “We can all learn theories of colour, composition, and perspective, find and explore painting and drawing techniques, and how to use materials. Some of us have a little more flair and pick it up quicker than others, like with many other interests and hobbies. I lead by example, encourage, and give one-toone assistance to those who need it, using different teaching strategies to consolidate their learning of the subject and maximise their potential to hone their skills and gain greater confidence and enjoyment.” With comfort and enjoyment highly prioritised by The Drawing Room, every member is made to feel valued and welcome, whatever their skillset. Julie’s aim has always been to provide value for money, never becoming greedy with costs, and ensuring that each experience is memorable, fun, and social. The Drawing Room stands out for its commitment to supporting its students and sharing a love for art with the world. This is further demonstrated in the multiple glowing reviews left by students of the studio, praising Julia for opening up the world of art for them. “We have been lucky enough to be able to access tuition from Julia for our carers group for some art therapy,” says Tracy. “It’s been a great experience for all of us, and we have learned so much. Julia is a great teacher.” “What a welcoming and comforting environment,” writes Gav, “Julia is a great teacher with the patience and skill to guide you to produce your best. I found the beginners’ Saturday class a fantastic first painting experience.” In order to continue delivering inspirational classes that help students of all abilities to thrive, The Drawing Room continually adapts and evolves its services to coincide with market changes. Following the pandemic lockdown, Julia found that there has been a growing market for online classes and courses. During that time, The Drawing Room livestreamed all classes for members and discovered that many students preferred this way of learning. Looking ahead, Julia tells us, “Online classes is an area that I will be pursuing more of in the future, as well as subscription boxes delivered to our members’ door.” In addition to this, the studio will be opening as an exhibition space for attendees to enjoy seeing their work on display and for sale. This will further The Drawing Room’s exceptional endeavours to make art more accessible and engaging for its members, fostering a sense of community and belonging for its members. Since its beginnings, The Drawing Room has been committed to supporting students of all ages and abilities, successfully demonstrating that creating and enjoying art is possible for everyone. Creative & Visual Arts 2024 | 11 Leading Theatre Production Organisation – Italy One of the finest and best-preserved archaeological sites in Italy, the majestic Roman Theatre of Volterra tells a rich story of an ancient past. Excavated in the 1950s, the theatre was constructed towards the end of the 1st century b.C. on commission by the prestigious Caecina family. Now, it is home to the Volterra Roman Theatre International Festival, an annual event of high accord designed to highlight and celebrate the cultural and historical vibrancy of Volterra and it’s theatre in Italian art scene. We speak to Simon Domenico Migliorini, Founder and Artistic Director, to learn more. The Volterra Roman Theatre International Festival was founded in 2003 after almost a decade of meticulous development and innovation, a period during which routine spot interventions were undertaken in order to truly understand the obstacles and opportunities being faced by this colossal project, and the conservative sensitivities congruent with such a significant monument as the theatre. Paying close attention to theme and quality, the festival has provided a large platform for unrecognised talents of all ages to celebrate Volterra and build their name. Productions are led by its Creator, Founder, and Artistic Director, Simon Domenico Migliorini, an impassioned individual who has distinguished himself on both a national and international level for his expertise. Simon leverages his unrivalled experience to lead the Volterra Roman Theatre International Festival to success and over the years, the Festival has achieved worldwide fame. The event offers Volterra’s citizens and tourists a wide array of multidisciplinary shows, ranging from prose and poetry to music, singing, and dancing. This comprehensive suite of offerings ensures that the Volterra Roman Theatre International Festival serves as an instrument for the valorisation of the City of Volterra’s monumental, urban, archaeological landscape and intangible heritage.” “The mission of the festival is to have an impact on our city, the territory, and the Tuscany region,” says Simon, “through operations of great creative originality that create a distinction when compared to other similar and already more deeply rooted events. Our references are those of the great international festivals. Our mission is to try to produce wealth through beauty, poetry, and sensitivity; a wealth that is not only tangible, but also of the soul.” International Festivals are regularly held around the world, but the Volterra Roman Theatre International Festival sets itself apart for its unmatched location in the architectural wonder of Volterra, as well as the originality of its offerings. The event’s programme is full of new, and unique talent, as Simon tells us that it does not measure its artists against their popularity or standardised marketing strategies, but rather their mastery of their art, their proposals, and topics, covered. “Here, you can breathe the true essence of performing art – which is indeed an art and not mere entertainment – here, you can have fun, get excited, and enrich your spirit alongside your cultural background,” he explains. “We want to restore the theatre to its role of exclusivity and not reduce it to cinematelevision standards. Ours is a “non-genetically modified” theatre that takes into account its primitive role, which is that of collective involvement. Indeed, we stand out because we believe we can involve both the public and artists in this beautiful project, not passively but by creating collaborations and networks of an international nature.” Across Italy, the performing arts industry has encountered unprecedented obstacles that threaten to shape the future of its landscape. Simon tells us that there are high economic risk factors preventing the Volterra Roman Theatre International Festival from betting on the originality and talent of the artists’ proposals, an obstacle that has been further heightened by the diminishing originality and soul of the art scene. He tells us that there has been a rising increase in artistic products that are too accentuated and generalised, leaving the sector saturated with empty, industrial content. To the Volterra Roman Theatre International Festival, true art helps its audience to reconnect with their surroundings, their passions, and their being. Looking ahead, the team aims to financially secure the future of the festival and rebuild the theatre’s seating in order to continue sharing true art with the world in its mission of celebrating the vibrant, authentic, and historical culture of Volterra. “We would like 2025 to be a turning point for the festival, marking a year of renewal and greater awareness among citizens and visitors of the importance of the Volterra Roman Theatre International Festival,” Simon concludes. “I always remember that the day after the discovery of the Roman Theatre of Volterra, scholar Enrico Fiumi said it must be reestablished because it would create an important economic pulse for which our children will be grateful.” Contact: Simon Domenico Migliorini Company: The Volterra Roman Theatre International Festival Web Address: www.teatroromanovolterra.it
12 | LUXlife Magazine Leading Fan Making Expert & Educator: Victoria Ajoku On a mission to revive the critically endangered craft of fan making, Victoria Ajoku is both the current and future face of fan teaching in the UK. Having appeared on TV shows such as Steph’s Packed Lunch and Love Your Weekend With Alan Titchmarsh, Victoria is leading and revitalising this niche sector. Her small business, Fan the Glory with Tori, was founded back in 2019, and is taking the art of fan making to another level. Below, we explore more about the business itself and its award-winning founder. Based in London, Victoria Ajoku is a ‘Master of the Arts’, a proud fan maker and the UK’s ambassador of Fan making. With an authentic and infectious personality, Victoria has been called upon to teach fan making across the UK and beyond, and she is the driving force behind the re-energising of the fan making art form, which is on the UK’s critically endangered list of crafts. Through her quaint operation, Fan the Glory with Tori, Victoria is restoring the very concept of ‘the fan’ by delivering two primary services. First and foremost, Victoria delivers a series of inclusive fan-making workshops both online and in person, with these carried out on either a one-to-one basis or in larger groups. These sessions are equal parts fun and therapeutic, and they are suitable for people of all ages (nursery children to seniors), backgrounds, abilities and walks of life. Alongside these workshops, Fan the Glory with Tori sells both handmade fans and fan related accessories online, as well as at craft markets and art fairs throughout the UK. Both of these services are carried out with the objective of not only keeping fan making alive but ensuring that it thrives. It’s dual focus sees that this practice is not only treated as a fun activity for everyone from work departments to professional artists seeking to master a new skill, but also that it adds value to their operations. This is achieved by the hand fans being able to have branded or decorated logos added to them, making them a talking point and a marketing tool for both a company and the wider fan making community. Diving deeper into her community, Victoria explains that the fan industry in which she operates can be described as, “the crafting, designing, trading, and teaching of hand fans.” For centuries, hand fans have been more than just personal cooling devices, they have been status symbols and fashion accessories, as well as having ceremonial uses. Capturing their multifaceted nature across her workshops, Victoria gives her clientele the opportunity to craft fans from a number of cultures, further reflecting the diversity of her sessions. Like with many things over the years, some of the virtuoso of hand fans has been lost, given that they have gone from luxury items to cheap, mass-produced commodities bought and sold at very low prices across the UK. It is this shift that had all but destroyed the intricate and personal process of making fans from scratch, until Victoria came along and started to once again champion it on a national scale. As a part of this commitment, Fan the Glory with Tori is the only organisation of its kind to offer a mobile service that travels around the UK to meet workshop participants wherever they may be. It is clear then that accessibility and convenience are cornerstones of the business, with these values being fully implemented through Fan the Glory with Tori also offering fan movement/dancing, fan fitness, and fan entertainment classes. “Fan the Glory with Tori can also be hired for celebrations such as weddings, birthdays, and hen parties, to name a few.” Outside of her business, Victoria also puts on public exhibitions. For example, last year she combined fan making with another endangered UK craft, paper marbling, which highlights a desire to continuously develop her knowledge and broaden her skills. As well as trying out new forms of craft to stay relevant, Victoria also attends the likes of business networking events and webinars to learn how to authentically grow her unique business. Thanks to these initiatives, 2025 is set to be another strong year for Fan the Glory with Tori, which has many new adventures on the horizon, beginning with the Greenwich FanMaking Craft Tour. After this, Victoria strives to do more interviews and appearances, before further expanding her creativity interests into calligraphy. We send Victoria Ajoku the best of wishes with these plans and celebrate her status as the face, heart, and soul of this sector through this well-deserved award. There was a period a few years back when the company’s products were manufactured by a big firm and distributed right across the US. Although seeing these unique baby shoes sell on such a wide scale was great for Phyllis, this vast undertaking began to clash with her ethos of quality over quantity. Because the main differentiator of this footwear is the care B
