After a chance meeting and the discovery of a mutual passion for creating fine wines, in 2016 the families decided to join forces and Continental Divide Winery was born. Today, the winery features California wines handcrafted by the Maltzmans and Colorado wines crafted by the Hutchison-Bryans, combining the two heritages to create a unique space where visitors can learn more about the process, taste some of the region’s finest produce and experience stunning natural beauty and award-winning hospitality. Continental Divide Winery: Best Winery Experience 2019 - Colorado Visitors can enjoy an education experience and benefit from the wisdom of all the Owners when they visit Continental Divide Winery. By tasting different wines crafted from both California and Colorado grapes, they can learn and experience the differences that altitude, soil and weather have on wine and expand their knowledge on the unique process that produces this delicious beverage. At Continental Divide Winery the team produce all of their wines in a state-of-the-art custom-built winemaking facility in South Park, Fairplay, making the winery the highest altitude winery in the world and creating exceptional quality wines with a unique taste. Crafting and aging wines at over 10,000’ altitude minimizes oxygen exposure and allows the true flavours of the fruit and land to come through. To further capitalize on its unique alpine location, this innovative winery uses a patented winemaking system to craft many of its wines in a nearly zero oxygen closed-cell environment. The team also use snow and the extreme temperatures of the winery’s alpine environment to control fermentation, instead of the mechanical and artificial cooling used by most other wineries, creating a distinctive, natural flavour that cannot be achieved by other wineries.
