Established in 1999 by Rajesh Maurya, The Wye Fry offers a varied menu based on the classic British dish of fish and chips and has since broadened to include dishes inspired by Rajesh’s heritage, including his family recipe of masala fish. He tells us more about the company and its commitment to the community. “We’re creating something special for the village and visitors to the area by providing both high quality and affordable food. Most of our customers are locals who have been enjoying our food for many years and I thank them for their continuous support. Having had the business for many years I have gotten to know the village and maintain a personal touch with all of my customers,” says Rajesh. Rajesh is constantly assessing his business using feedback from his customers to ensure that he continues to provide the same great food, with the same levels of customer excellence he has become renowned for. He caters to many dietary requirements having seen a definite desire for this among residents. He has also adapted his advertising to ensure that he reaches a wide audience, and to get online feedback and reviews, all of which are invaluable to his business. That wasn’t all that Rajesh had to adapt to and, being a takeaway establishment, the onslaught of the Covid-19 pandemic affected the company significantly. “We had to adapt the working environment to be safer for customers by enforcing more sanitation rules and a one-way system to allow a contactless and socially distanced Sep21243 The Wye Fry Best Traditional Fish & Chip Shop - Gloucestershire environment,” he explains. “Although we feel as though we have restored the business to its pre-Covid status, the number of tourists in the area has decreased, as has our number of clients, but we are very excited for their return to the Forest of Dean.” Besides working hard to keep his customers happy, Rajesh is also keen to keep his team satisfied too. Most of the staff members at The Wye Fry are from the area’s local families who are looking for part time or flexible work, and Rajesh believes that a friendly, family feel is very representative of the people in the village. In fact, Rajesh operates as a charity collection point to help the homeless in India, and his customers have made a significant difference with their kind contributions of blankets and food. Thanks to his hard work and dedication, Rajesh and The Wye Fry have recently been awarded the prestigious title of Best Traditional Fish & Chip Shop – Gloucestershire in the LUXlife Food and Drink Awards, and Rajesh is now looking forward to a bright future. “In order to make our food accessible to a wider audience we aim to broaden our menu,” he states. “We wish to include a larger variety of food items as well as introducing a glutenfree menu in the future.” Contact Details Contact: Rajesh Maurya Company: The Wye Fry Web Address: https://thewyefry.co.uk Nothing beats the quintessentially British meal of fish and chips.
