Like the fish shack this innovative dining establishment is located on the quay side Amble with stunning views across the river Coquet to Warkwork and the sea. Over the years, as testimony to the level of excellence it offers, the Old Boat House has been voted the fishing news awards best coastal fish restaurant in the whole of the UK in 2016 and 2017. It was also listed in the top ten best fish restaurants in the whole of the uk by the Caterer and sea fish 2017. The Fish Shack itself has a slightly more relaxed feel to it than the boat house, and welcomes walkers, families, and individual diners with or without their dogs. As a member of produced in Northumberland (Northumberland county council’s food and drink initiative), the group has direct access to some of the county’s best food and drink producers. It also has a fish buyers’ licence, allowing the group to buy fish and shell fish direct from the harbour wall ensuring that diners enjoy only the freshest produce possible. This focus on fresh, local produce extends beyond the group’s seafood, and both the Fish Shack and the Old Boat House are proud to serve locally produced beers and local spring water. The team also only use free range eggs from a local farm, because they firmly believe that fresh produce used well will create timeless dishes that their clients will keep returning to sample. As an innovative and dynamic group, the Old Boat House Food Group understands that adapting new technology where and when possible is vital to maintaining not only the high standards the modern diner expects but to create consistency during busy trading periods. However, traditional cooking methods are what sets the group apart from its competitors, and as such the team take great pride in the techniques they employ. Within the Old Boat House group of restaurants, the team use some of the oldest methods of cookery in the world, combined with some of the newest. Whilst the team use their wood fired oven to cook fish, vegetables and pizza and, they also vacuum pack and sous vide fish, meats, vegetables and fruit. Looking to the future, there are many ambitious plans in store for the group as it seeks to further enhance its already impressive success.
