46 | LUXlife Magazine ver 25 years ago, Jacquie Earle began working as a textile designer. Her artistic talents eventually led her to create unique jewelry designed to be cherished and passed down through generations. Jacquie quickly became mesmerised by natural gemstones and the incredible malleability of precious metals. Her exquisite pieces have evolved to possess a rejuvenating energy that harnesses light and mobility through her lasering technique. Jacquie is proud of her numerous collaborations with award-winning gemstone cutters, which have produced stunning creations that ultimately become celebrated Willow Diamond collectibles. Jacquie says, “As a former dancer, I love movement. My jewelry is designed to be worn. Jewelry is choreographed like a dance with several moving parts and craft workers. You can take it apart, add or change different elements, refresh, and update a piece … or preserve its legacy for generations. Practically speaking, jewelry is designed to be worn because when you put it on, that’s when it springs to life and comes alive like a dance, and when paired with the perfect partner, that’s when magic happens.” As a first generation Chinese American, Jacquie credits her passion for art, design, and language to her heritage and roots. Her father, Frederick T.C. Yu, was an emeritus professor and dean at the Columbia Graduate School of Journalism. Her mother, Alice Chen Yu, was an ethnomusicologist whose own mother, Alice Chen, was a renowned classical Chinese painter. These early family influences fostered her diligent work ethic and boundless creativity. On the design process, Jacquie shares, “My jewelry is made by hand so there’s a lot of touch and feel to my work. The jewelry making process is a lot like cooking because the outcome is largely dependent on the materials and quality that go into the design or recipe. In jewelry, the materials, quality, and craftsmanship present themselves like an open book e.g. the fire and colour of a brilliant diamond, the lustre of a pearl, the softness of 18K rose gold…. Material quality and excellence are important in my work, and therefore, finding and assembling the right materials is the key to starting the design process.” Jacquie begins by visualising the customer and the occasion when they will wear their distinctive piece. From there, Jacquie works to unify the materials, highlighting their natural characteristics and combining them into the perfect piece for the customer. Willow Diamond’s jewelry is designed to be dynamic and expressive. Even when sitting still, the body is breathing, and light and air are in motion all around. Jacquie encourages customers to move as they model their jewelry, Most Innovative Artisan Diamond Jewelry Brand - USA Founded by Jacquie Earle in 1999, Willow Diamonds creates beautiful custom jewelry designs and art pieces with artisan-cut stones and laser-pierced natural diamonds.
