The story of Porvoon Lakritsi first began in 1980, when the company was founded by Bengt Sjöström in Porvoo, Finland. After putting its Koskenkylä factory into operations in 1983 – and moving production entirely to Koskenkylä in 1989 – the brand introduced the concept of metrilakut, or metre liquorices, to its local market. In addition to joining forces with Finlandia Candy to operate under the Finnsweet Group, Porvoon Lakritsi also saw its latest factory expansion that year. The expanded factory offers two separate production facilities – enabling the production of both regular and gluten-free liquorice – and three different production lines, comprising a coloured liquorice line, traditional liquorice line, and a gluten-free filled liquorice line. Today, Porvoon Lakritsi has established itself as a household name for the production of metrilakut and gluten-free liquorice products. With the goal of becoming the very best in liquorice production, the company has developed an expansive portfolio of products that allow it to stand out from the crowd. Now, Porvoon Lakritsi’s product line ranges from traditional black liquorice to speciality colours, flavours, and shapes – offering more than 50 different liquorice rope types, and even five different flavours of gluten-free liquorice ropes.
