Health Beauty & Wellness Awards 2023

Health Beauty & Wellness Awards 2023 | 33 A company which started life in the kitchen of a family home has grown incredibly over the years to become an award-winning globally recognised business, which proudly supports British manufacturing at its finest. We find out more as Morgan’s Pomade celebrates a win in the Health Beauty and Wellness Awards 2023. Most Historic Hair Pomade Production Brand 2023 – UK Morgan's is very conscious of its impact on the environment and recycle everything that can be recycled. “It is our mission, as a company, to create the best range of products for the barbering and hairdressing industry that we can with as little negative impact on the environment as possible. Alongside this, Morgan's is very conscientious about sustainability and product testing, we are proud to state that none of our products are tested on animals.” “Nowadays, we supply professional hair and beauty products to barbers and hairdressers as well as to the general public,” explains Director, Debbie Pearson. “Morgan’s has a unique vintage style with luxury fragrance and up-to-date formulas.” However, the key to success is to move with the times and diversify and Morgan’s is certainly embracing the modern age by formulating new products every year to keep pace with the latest trends, fragrances, and developments. Included in the range now are skin products, such as serum and an age defying moisturiser to aid in the protection of skin. There are also many beard grooming items and vegan products too. As well as its changing ingredients, Morgan’s has found that promoting the brand has changed drastically over the years as well – rather than rely on word-of-mouth, digital methods have now been introduced in order to continue to reach the masses. “We increasingly use social media to connect with customers and the industry,” elaborates Debbie. “We have an interactive website which has a large amount of information on it, and we actively attend trade shows in the UK and abroad regularly to promote our brand.” Diversification beckoned once again during the Covid-19 pandemic which, although challenging, allowed Morgan’s to produce and sell a hand sanitiser product across the country, as well as to major brand companies when there was a national shortage, proving that innovation and the ability to be agile really is key. Recently, in recognition of all its hard work in encouraging healthy skin, beards and hair, not to mention great grooming and style, Morgan’s Pomade was named Most Historic Hair Pomade Production Brand 2023 – UK in the Health Beauty and Wellness Awards 2023. Now, with a bright and bountiful future ahead, it seems that growth is very much on the cards with plans to continue moving forward and promoting the very best of British manufacturing. Contact: Debbie Pearson Company: Morgan’s Pomade Web Address: www.morganspomade.co.uk t all began in 1873 with the very first product produced by Morgan’s being a shampoo known as the ‘Marie Antoinette Eucalyptus Egg Julep Shampoo.’ This was followed a year or two later by the now famous Morgan’s Pomade (Morgan’s). At a time when all manufacturing, labelling, packaging, and distribution was done by hand there was little time available to devote to sales, but as the products began to slowly sell the good news travelled fast. Fashion and style conscious men began to try Morgan’s and quickly discovered how effective it was. The first stockists of the Pomade were the fashionable gentlemen’s hairdressers in London’s West End, however as the popularity grew and the distribution of this new ‘must have’ product expanded until manufacturing moved out of the family kitchen and into a small factory in Highgate. Although the production was still very much a one-man operation, the move was encouraging and, as word spread across the channel, Morgan’s began to supply to exclusive hairdressers in Paris and other European capitals. Challenging times during the First World War also brought opportunity, and Morgan’s arrived in the sub-continent with India becoming its largest export market. During this time, Hollywood was booming and with it came the suave and immaculately groomed look that gave further credence to the pomade’s reputation, with several famous stars of the day being fans of the now legendary product. Fast forward through another premises upgrade and the Second World War, when the firm enjoyed a period of extremely strong export growth, with West Africa and Nigeria in particular becoming a very strong market. With this growing trade, once more larger premises were needed and a new purpose-built factory was constructed, with modern manufacturing machinery, at Whitstable in Kent and production capacity was increased accordingly. Enough land was purchased to allow for further additions in order to accommodate the flourishing firm. Now distributed to more than 50 export markets worldwide, the product and has recently celebrated the sale of one billion jars of pomade as well as celebrating 150 years of manufacturing in Britain this year too.
