Health Beauty & Wellness Awards 2025

Health Beauty and Wellness Awards 2025 | 13 A mum who was bullied for her acne has made a soothing skincare product to help others struggling with skin problems. Lisa Kavanagh, the Founder of Sphagnum De-Lux, has created a line of products to suit those with sensitive skin and spot/acne-prone troubles. The 37-year-old entrepreneur and mum of four from Manchester is on a mission to help others suffering with their skin and self-confidence. As Lisa is named in the Health Beauty and Wellness Awards 2025, we caught up to learn more about her inspirational journey. Best Organic Skincare Brand 2025 – UK Lisa recalled: “I was thrilled to start my business, as I finally found the right ingredients and I could start my mission to help others feel confident in their skin. Peat moss is fantastic in helping reduce blemishes and redness on the skin. It’s also great for oily, spot/acne-prone skin.” With her business up and running, skincare issues once again hit close to home as Martin, her then-13-year-old son, struggled with a few spots and very bad psoriasis. Similarly to Lisa, his skin had a massive knock on Martin’s confidence – to the point where he didn’t want to leave the house. Unfortunately, Martin’s psoriasis continued to worsen, reaching a critical point when his skin started to bleed. Lisa explained: “It completely knocked his confidence, especially because he was only 13 years old. Friends were asking him to meet up and he would refuse and stay at home because he was so embarrassed about his skin. It was horrible seeing my son feel the same as I did when I was a teenager.” Martin is now 17 years old, and his skin has significantly improved since learning about skincare and using the anti-inflammatory Sphagnum De-Lux (sphagnum moss) products. While it has been a challenging journey for Lisa, she remains dedicated to helping others with sensitive skin to find the right products so they too can become confident within themselves. She concluded: “It’s been two years since I first started my business and, in that time, I’ve been told of many heartwarming stories of how it has helped customers with their skin. My goal is for people to feel comfortable and confident in their skin, as I certainly didn’t whilst growing up. “I don’t want people to feel like they can’t go outside and enjoy life; nobody deserves to feel the way I did because I couldn’t find the right products for my skin. I’d love to go back to myself at 16 years old and say: ‘Stop worrying, because you will learn to love the skin you were born with’.” Contact: Lisa Kavanagh Company: Sphagnum De-Lux Web Address: https://sphagnumdelux.com/ isa Kavanagh found it difficult growing up with acne and finding the right products to help her sensitive skin. When she was 16 years old and in her final year of studies at school, she started to suffer from a severe case of acne. She used heavy makeup to cover her acne scars, which had become the target of cruel bullying and earned her the hurtful nickname of ‘Scarface’. This upsetting experienced inspired Lisa to create her own skincare business, dedicated to creating natural products for sensitive skin and promoting the importance of self-confidence. She told us: “I suffered with acne from 16 until I turned 18. I tried so many skincare products and was even given harsh medication to try and reduce the acne and redness – unfortunately it didn’t react well to my skin as it harmed the pigmentation. “Because my skin wasn’t getting any better, I would spend hours in the morning covering up my acne and the scarring on my cheeks with foundation. It got to the point where I would want to stay at home all the time and even when my friends asked me to meet up or go to parties, I simply refused. I just felt so awful about myself.” Lisa wanted to turn the negative experience into something positive, so she started a beauty course at college to find out more about skincare. As well as learning anatomy and physiology, Lisa became obsessed with reading every ingredient in her skincare products and dissecting exactly what wasn’t reacting well to her sensitive skin. Following a rigorous trial and error process – testing countless products that did not work for her skin – Lisa decided to create her own skincare. Two years ago, Lisa found that peat moss was the perfect solution for her skin. Peat moss, known as sphagnum moss, was famously used to heal wounds and saved the lives of soldiers in World War One. In addition to its healing properties, sphagnum moss is also renowned for its cell renewal properties, making it an advantageous ingredient for products focused on anti-aging. L
