Health Beauty & Wellness Awards 2025

Jun22596 6 | LUXlife Magazine Daniel Galvin is an icon in the hairdressing world, having personally pioneered modern hairdressing techniques and making a massive impact on the art of colouring hair. On a mission to ensure that every individual feels happy and confident with their hair, Daniel has dedicated his entire professional career to not only expanding but enhancing the hairdressing landscape, bold enough to explore what no hairdresser has dared to explore before. As a result, he has played a significant role in creating what we now know to be the modern hairdressing industry, reshaping the market through his ground-breaking approach and innovative flair. Part of a hairdressing dynasty spanning back to the 1800s, Daniel took his first transformative step into this industry at a young age. In the 1960s, he began a formal hairdressing apprenticeship after working as a Saturday boy in his father’s London salon. The Galvin name has been rooted in hairdressing for over a century, with Daniel’s grandfather, father, and brother having well-established ties to the industry. Not long into his hairdressing apprenticeship, Daniel became fascinated with the lifechanging qualities of colouring hair and vowed to make this his primary focus. Following this discovery, Daniel began to experiment with hair cuttings and blending dyes to make his own colour charts. It wasn’t long before his exceptional skills were headhunted by renowned salon owner Leonard Lewis. Notably, Daniel developed a pioneering natural application technique called Brickwork colouring. His usage of this technique to achieve model Twiggy’s iconic pale blonde hair colour established Daniel Galvin as a recognised name in every corner of the hairdressing world. Through the 1970s, Daniel began to experiment with his early ‘natural beauty enhancement philosophy’. Such experiments led him to create semi-permanent shades using black coffee, lemon juice, henna, eggs, and red wine, and enabled him to develop a number of new placement and application techniques. From here, he started to connect colour choice with skin tone and eye colour, another approach that has quickly become the standard for colourists around the world. It was at this time Daniel began to apply his skillset to blockbuster movies, including Murder on the Orient Express and A Clockwork Orange. Mar25171 Leading National Hair Colourist 2025 (UK): Daniel Galvin Our hair serves as more than a mere physical feature – it plays a significant role in our perception of ourselves and forms a vital aspect of our overall identity. Often symbolising culture, individuality, and personal expression, the ways in which we choose to style our hair can speak volumes about who we truly are inside and who we may hope to be. Daniel Galvin is a leading hair colourist with four eponymous salons across London, whose name has long become synonymous with quality, knowledge, and prestige. We caught up with Stephen Nurse, Director of Operations at Daniel Galvin, to learn more as we celebrate Daniel and his salons in the Health Beauty and Wellness Awards 2025. After opening Europe’s first colour specialist salon in George Street, Marylebone, Daniel devoted a decade to launching his own products – a signature line of professional hair colour and the first haircare line devoted to preserving colour. These developments were truly revolutionary and have paved the way for so many top-tier products that we know and love today. In the 1990s, Daniel took the world by storm once again, this time with the launch of a colour line in Japan. Throughout this decade, he explored and invented many new techniques that support and uplift his philosophy of natural beauty enhancement. His techniques have been instrumental in adding depth, movement, and shine to natural looking hair, and enabled Daniel to feature in Japan’s Hoyu Hair Colour Museum for his significant contributions towards the Japanese hairdressing market. In 2000, Daniel relocated to the 9,000 ft² colour specialist salon on George Street, dedicating an entire spacious floor to providing colour services. In 2006, he was awarded for his spectacular services to the hairdressing and colouring industry with an OBE. Following this remarkable achievement, Daniel went on to establish his Corinthia and Kensington locations to continue providing exceptional services to a wide base of discerning clientele. Today, Daniel Galvin is a household name known for his incredible industry impact. The stylist has established four leading salons across London: Marylebone, Corinthia, Kensington, and Selfridges. He is now joined in the business by his daughter Louise and a robust team of skilled and trusted hairdressing professionals. Each salon works in complete cohesion, united by the mission of natural beauty enhancement to ensure that each client leaves feeling as refreshed and confident as they possibly can. This cohesion, alongside the unparalleled skillset possessed by each and every stylist it employs, is just one of the many reasons for which Daniel Galvin salons stand apart in the market. With Founder Daniel being the first hairdresser to ever specialise in colour, it is only appropriate that this is also his salons’ speciality. Each of the four locations provide the very best colour and hairdressing services, delivered by teams of passionate and hardworking professional stylists.
