Isabelle Gellé is the Founder and Principal, as well as the course leader, at The Perfumery Art School. She tells us more about the philosophy behind the school and its mission. “We want to allow students worldwide to decipher the world of natural Perfuming Arts according to traditional processes, to educate and enthuse them in the Art of Perfumery, perfume heritage, aromas, scents and flavours, and to contribute to the establishment of a network of homegrown perfumers worldwide who will promote the use of local raw materials in their own countries with a view to being sustainable.”. The school teaches people how to compose beautiful and natural scents for their personal care products, be it perfumes, soaps, candles, body butters, oil serums or home and linen scents. Using only teaching methods based on traditional techniques, the school ensures that the end products comply with regulations and trading standards. “Upon completion of the programs, our graduates hold all the tools necessary to formulate, produce and sell high-end scented products as independent perfumers,” Isabelle embellishes. “As part of the course fee, we provide a starter kit containing aromatic oils and accessories to allow any new learner to get started immediately.” Isabelle herself fell in love with perfume at the tender age of 10, experimenting with gardenia flowers macerated in coconut oil! What started as a childhood curiosity turned into a lifelong career and she followed in the footsteps of her ancestors the House of Gellé Frères, perfumers to the Royal Courts of Europe by entering the Having been awarded Best Comprehensive Perfume Course Programme – UK, Scent Specialist and Teacher, Isabelle Gellé, talks us through what it is that makes her perfume school so successful. Mar21189 Perfumery Art School UK Ltd A Nose for Business perfume industry. In 2006, Isabelle made the decision to use only natural products in the production of her scents and is now renowned for her brand, Les Parfums D’Isabelle, which are sold to private clients and to high-end boutiques. Since 2013, The Perfumery Art School UK has been shaping the future of independent perfumery and is partnered with established perfumers who create perfumes that sell worldwide. Most of the courses are delivered online through user-friendly eLearning tools and are self-paced to allow the learners (who are mostly working people) to delve into their passion for perfumes without pressure. The school regularly updates its courses, adding in live webinars or physical workshops to allow learners to practise their art and expand their knowledge. The latest software technology available is also utilised for eLearning to facilitate a smooth online educational experience. “We are proud to be the first eLearning school of perfumery in the UK with intensive course programs certified by CPD UK,” Isabelle enthuses. “We have delivered courses to over 300 students worldwide and many have already established their own successful perfumery and personal care businesses in their respective countries.” With the Covid-19 pandemic affecting most industries the world over, Isabelle was concerned about the school, however due to the nature of the course, which is taught online, she actually experienced a positive uptick in business. “We have been witnessing a growth in demand for crafting products with natural materials, and this has translated into a growth in enrolments from learners worldwide. During Covid-19 and lockdown, people have discovered the facility of online learning which has benefited our course programs hugely.” The only downside was that the shipping of starter kits was challenging due to restrictions and, until the situation is fully resolved, the school is only shipping to Europe and North America. Regarding the future, Isabelle and the team intend to grow and expand by adding more courses relating to scent and scent therapy. The company is also seeking a partner within the UK to set up a small production facility for its kits and web shop that will include a small lab facility for artisans to be able to have their scent products produced in small quantities. For now, the future is looking ‘scent-sational’! “We aspire to become the leaders in online education for the Perfuming Arts,” states Isabelle. “We want to reacquaint people with the tradition of scents through the rediscovery of the essence of nature.” Contact: Isabelle Gellé Company: Perfumery Art School UK Ltd Web Address: www.perfumeartschool-uk.com
