Enjoying festive illuminations has become a home- grown and proud tradition over the decades, in which the office buildings in Tsim Sha Tsui East area light up their exterior illumination in winter time, bringing the festive joy to millions of locals and visitors. For the first time, two of the Sino Group’s Tsim Sha Tsui properties displayed a curated selection of moving image artworks as the crux of their festive light display during Christmas and Chinese New Year. In collaboration with Niio, the open call was launched in October 2018, inviting professional new media artists and art students from around the world to submit designs for a unique opportunity to have their work displayed on two of Hong Kong’s most prominent screens; the harbour facing facades of the Tsim Sha Tsui Centre and Empire Centre building. With 157 submissions by 112 artists from 39 countries, the program was an Art An Unprecedented Success for the Medium of Digital Art For the past few decades, festive illuminations have become a proud home-grown tradition in Hong Kong, complementing the spectacular night views and adding a festive spirit to this most cosmopolitan of cities. Last year, one of the leading property developers in the region launched a ground-breaking campaign, ‘Sino Group x Niio Art Illumination’, which was recognised by our judging panel as the ‘Best Creative Festive Lighting Program in Asia’ in LUXlife’s Travel & Tourism Awards.
