LUX July 2017
LUX - July 2017 39 Home from Home Family hotel rooms are anything but ordinary and appeal to children and their parents alike. If the children are joining you this time, choose one of their Grand or State rooms for the additional space for one or (in some cases) two beds. Shanine then directs our thoughts to family friendly Tree Cottage Nursery, which is located within the beautiful grounds of Stapleford Park Hotel, in a stone cottage surrounded by trees. “The nursery is Ofsted registered and all staff have current DBS checks. Children will be able to see many different animals whilst at Tree Cottage including rabbits, squirrels and pheasants who very often come into our garden for the children to feed. There are lots of nature walks and gardens to explore around Stapleford Park. “We have key emphasis towards learning through play - children will have the choice of arts and crafts, role play, small world play, early maths, mark making and science within our nursery. There is a garden outside the nursery with many different areas within it and we have the full use of an enclosed double tennis court area that we use for bikes, cars, scooter, ball games, team sports, obstacle courses and many other fun activities. “We also encourage activities such as gardening, climbing, balancing, running and role play within the garden and children will be given the chance to grow plants and vegetables.” Country pursuits It is easy to picture Stapleford Park’s glorious estate in centuries past; house guests striding out for the hunt or game shooting. Today, the more sedate country pursuits of archery, falconry and clay pigeon shooting are available for house guests to enjoy, enveloped by 500 acres of some of Lancelot Brown’s finest landscape. Shanine explains more about the country pursuits available for hotel guests to partake of, including falconry, archery and shooting. “We have an experienced team at Stapleford Park to guide you in your chosen country pursuits, so you’re always in safe hands. There’s plenty to keep all age groups busy too; the ‘Falconer’s Walk’ is a favourite with our younger house guests and members. Our country pursuits are extremely popular and are provided by off-site suppliers. “The lanner falcon, poised and alert, the European eagle owl, piercing eyes focused on your falconer’s glove, ready for flight. At Stapleford Park’s own School of Falconry, you can experience the ancient and aristocratic art of falconry in an authentic setting. Experience the thrill of handling majestic birds of prey under the expert guidance of Stapleford’s head falconer, Pete Sibson. “When it comes to archery, imagine feeling the weight of your bow at full draw, as you take your aim. You can enjoy this traditional sport at Stapleford, with a personal archery tutor to guide you as you hone your skill. Please note there is a minimum of two people per booking. “Hunting was particularly popular at Stapleford during the 19th century Gretton years, as the fashionable crowd descended upon the house and estate for their fill of fresh country air. You can also take part in clay pigeon shooting. Just listen for the thwack of the clay releasing, as you ready your gun to shoot in the rambling parklands of Stapleford Park. This activity is suitable for individuals and groups, experienced or not. You can also take part in game shooting in season – please contact us for some of the finest shoots in the Midlands, held in the local area.” Shanine then reveals further country pursuits, including horse riding, swimming and croquet. “We offer a range of off-site, quality, riding opportunities through our excellent contacts with the local riding community. Please contact us with details of your requirements, including your size and riding experience, before your arrival. “Stapleford Park has a 22-meter indoor swimming pool, conveniently situated within the house, as well as a Jacuzzi, steam room, and sauna. In the warmer months, wander onto the adjacent terrace for a spot of sun basking. “On croquet, isn’t there something so satisfying and dignified about the sound of a wooden mallet hitting a croquet ball? You can challenge your family and friends to a game on the lawn, or perhaps horse shoes or boules? “All ages will enjoy the giant chess set on the lawn at Stapleford. Or perhaps you and your family would enjoy a picnic in the country. You can experience picnics the way they used to be. After Stapleford Park, no other picnic will be the same again (May to August).” So, why not become a member of Stapleford Park and you will have a haven, a retreat from your busy life, an authentic place to relax and restore, a familiar escape? Shanine concludes by explaining the benefits of membership. “Feel your mind clearing as you undertake the relaxation rituals that you best enjoy, a game of golf, a swim in the delectably warm pool, a spa treatment or perhaps just settling down in a comfortable armchair and watching the world go by. Invite friends to join you for drinks in the saloon, dinner in the Grinling Gibbons dining room, or host a private dinner in your favourite room. “Membership has other privileges too, including special rates on accommodation in the house, food and drinks in the dining rooms, as well as spa treatments and golf tuition. Becoming a member of Stapleford Park will make you feel right at home, right away.”
