Leaders in Luxury Awards 2024 | 25 8 | LUXlife Magazine The Hamptons’ Finest Bed and Breakfast The historic NY village of East Hampton holds the Best Luxury Bed & Breakfast 2024 - East Coast USA, The Baker House 1650. An undisputed masterpiece of 17th century architecture inspired by the English Cotswolds, this property balances historical charm with all of the modern amenities one would expect from a luxury inn in this beautiful part of the world. As the most exclusive boutique hotel in the Hamptons, The Baker House 1650 offers rest, relaxation, and a tremendous choice of breakfast, brunch, and beverage options. Built in 1648 before being sold to Thomas Baker, one of East Hampton Village’s founding fathers, two years later, The Baker House 1650 is today owned by Antonella Bertello. Antonella’s journey with this remarkable property began more than two decades ago, when she and her fellow investors were seeking an investment property in the Hamptons as part of a 1031 exchange. Despite thinking this property would not be the right fit, to say that it was love at first sight as soon as Antonella walked through the vintage door would be an understatement. Leveraging a background in real estate, construction, design, and sales, Antonella and her team set about making what was then a tired property into the luxurious hotspot that is today. When the property’s carriage house, then no longer a part of the estate, went up for sale a few years later, Antonella and co. snatched this up too, affording it a similar treatment. The 16 years since have seen a number of additions to further modernise the property without stripping it of its charm, such as Wi-Fi, iPhone docks, and flat-screen televisions. Today, The Baker House 1650 offers seven rooms in the Main Baker House, with the property also boasting an infinity pool, a grand living room with a traditional fireplace, library, outdoor terrace, and lush gardens. The Baker Carriage House then holds two additional suites, four other beautifully appointed rooms, an outdoor pool and terrace, and some of the most exquisite garden landscapes that can be found in the Hamptons, encompassing some of the oldest documented trees in the region. Highlights of the rooms themselves include a private bath, a fireplace, and L’OCCITANE bathroom products, to name just a few, with guests also able to enjoy such extras as a laundry service, beach passes (including towels, chairs, and umbrellas), local gym access, and of course breakfast and brunch prepared by a private chef. Chef Alba is the mastermind behind these dishes, made fresh every day using local ingredients, many of which are even grown on site in the hotel’s own personal herb garden. One of the most distinguishing features of The Baker House 1650 is its Baker Spa, which offers guests and non-guests alike exclusive use of its spa facilities. Unlike other spas, where patrons have to share facilities with other customers, visitors to this spa get the whole room and all of its facilities to themselves, including a dry sauna, jacuzzi, eucalyptus steam shower, counter current swimming pool, and private changing room. A team of highly skilled therapists are also on hand, offering the likes of massages and facial treatments. The unique, breathtaking nature of The Baker House 1650 also lends itself to the venue being the ideal space for a special occasion, be it a wedding party, private event, or other such celebration. Aside from these big days, the property revels in the everyday experiences of guests, as seen in it bringing back the popular English tradition of afternoon tea. This is held weekly from Memorial Day through to the end of October, using teas from Southampton as well as a number of upgrade options to offer an experience like no other for miles around. Also, as of Memorial Day weekend, The Baker House 1650 launched its weekly “Aperitivo at Baker” evenings, which have already proven to be highly popular, an opportunity to indulge in delightful cocktails – crafted by its talented mixologist – with a stunning sunset backdrop. This is in addition to its “Sip and Shop” and “The Baker Boutique by PazLifestyle” events, alongside yoga and a new “Garden Series” of watercolour painting sessions located in the glorious Carriage House gardens. As for the future of The Baker House 1650, Antonella’s passion for cars and racing has resulted in there being some incredibly exciting car events in the works, along with the numerous events that are constantly taking place across the Hamptons. All of this only adds to the mastery of The Baker House 1650, which strives to be a guest’s home away from home, offering them all of the familiar comforts and luxuries set in a remarkable location and executed by Antonella and her amazing team, lovingly known as the Baker House Family.
