28 Shining Brightly in The Golden State Light can be an illuminator of ingenuity, bringing with it new life and a flood of new ways to experience a space. California is home to some truly outstanding residential architecture, and LFA Lighting Design is making it even more beautiful. To learn more about this brightly-burning star illuminating The Golden State, we profiled the firm following its recognition as the most outstanding company for residential lighting design in California. Light is so much more than just the opposite of dark. The right lighting design can transform even the most mundane of residential spaces into an environment of ethereal beauty. The perfect lighting design complements every aspect of a space and enhances feelings created through architecture. Subtle becomes sophisticated, warm becomes snuggly, and open becomes communal. Setting the gold standard for lighting residential lighting design in California is LFA. An integral feature of any space, light requires the deftest of hands to ensure its impact is just right. Too much and a space can feel painfully bright, or too little and it becomes moody rather than ambient. That sweet spot in the middle is where LFA excels, making sure every space is lit to perfection, whether that is an interior or exterior environment. LFA designs lighting not only for residential spaces, the firm also works within commercial, retail, hospitality, and healthcare sectors. When an environment has been created with careful and meticulous attention to detail, why hide it? LFA’s approach to lighting design truly maximises the potential of a space and ensures that everyone can enjoy it. Carefully considered in tandem with architectural and interior design elements, each lighting solution seeks to heighten the experience intrinsic to a space. Light can make a basic idea into a brilliant one, which is exactly what the team at LFA do so well. The leadership for LFA is owner and principal lighting designer Vince Tarango, who has more than eighteen years experience in the lighting design and construction industry. A native to the central coast of California, Vince graduated from the University of California Santa Barbara with a degree in Fine Arts before going on to apply his knowledge in senior design roles. Having worked for an internationally- recognized architectural lighting design firm and a commercial electrical contractor prior to founding LFA, Vince brings with him a wealth of knowledge to enhance how light can be used within a space. Oct19526 Vince’s expertise within electrical design and construction, combined with his artistic eye for light and space continues to prove invaluable for LFA’s clientele. His unique approach of being practical, purposeful and artistic at the same time results in lighting solutions that far outshine the competition and serve to make any space even more beautiful. As well as delivering impeccable designs for his firm, Vince is also a professional member of the International Association of Lighting Designers and has been a member of the Community Advisory Council to Lightfair. Sharing and gaining new knowledge has kept Vince at the forefront of industry changes and enabled his designs to remain fresh, innovative and exciting. Inspiration is everywhere for LFA as it is perfectly based in the city of Ventura, nestled on the coast between Santa Barbara and Los Angeles. The glitz of Hollywood and the beauty of the Santa Ynez Mountains provide the team inspiration from urban, country, and truly luxurious designs in neighbouring cities. The beauty of California’s diverse countryside and cityscapes fuels the creativity and master craftsmanship to new heights, drawing on everything the state offers. This inspiration has resulted in LFA creating lighting solutions that are, simply put, exceptional. Ranging from a high- end residence in Dana Point to the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History (SBMNH), there is seemingly no task that Vince and his team cannot handle. The former, a Shackleton Isle residence, now boasts lighting that is the perfect combination of functional and beautiful. The light does not overpower the interior design, but rather accentuates it in such a way that evokes a feeling of warmth and luxury living throughout the entire property. The latter represents a completely different aspect of the firm’s expertise. Invited to take part in an extensive renovation of the museum, LFA was challenged to create something truly innovative.
