30 Dec19189 Exploring the Algarve: Portugal’s Most Desirable Destination With over 3,000 hours of sunshine per year and 200 kilometres of stunning coastline it’s hardly surprising that the Algarve has become Portugal’s most popular tourist destination. The Algarve really does have something for everyone, whether you want to just relax on a beach or get stuck into some serious sporting activities, whether you are single or travelling as a family. For most visitors to the Algarve their point of arrival is the international airport at Faro, a city well worth taking the time to explore. There are good transport links from Faro to the rest of the Algarve, whether you are heading for a single destination holiday or going to explore the Algarve by staying in multiple destinations. There is a wide range of luxury hotels to suit all tastes and budgets all along the coast or you may prefer to stay in rental accommodation which affords a little more privacy and independence. Whatever type of holiday you enjoy, the Algarve is unlikely to disappoint. Family activities The resorts of the Algarve are experienced in catering for families and ensure that everyone has a good time. There are a wide range of clubs and activities which children will enjoy, leaving mum and dad free to snooze on the beach. If you are a sporting family, there is ample opportunity to enjoy a wide range of sporting activities which cater for all ages and abilities. Your family will also enjoy the traditional fairs, festivals and historical re-enactments which take place throughout the year. Sporting activities The Algarve’s beautiful coastline and interior, coupled with it’s perfect climate mean that a wide range of sporting activities can be enjoyed all year round. Golf: The Algarve is of course world famous for its magnificent golf courses, over forty of them in fact, many designed by some the game’s most famous players. Play all the year on some of the most beautiful courses in the world. Golf pros are always on hand to help you improve your game and there are courses to suit all levels of expertise. Water sports: Whatever water sport you enjoy you’ll find the opportunity on the Algarve. The coast boasts a number of stylish marinas if yachting is your pleasure and if you’ve never sailed before you can try dingy sailing with an expert instructor. Surfing, windsurfing, scuba diving and snorkelling are also widely available and again it doesn’t matter if you are a novice, there are plenty of expert instructors available. Activities on land: There’s far more to the Algarve than its stunning coastline, the interior has long-distance footpaths which are a hiker’s delight. Enjoy mountain biking or abseiling or simply explore the rich flora and fauna. The Algarve’s rich cultural heritage: If you enjoy art and architecture, the Algarve has plenty to interest you. Silves, former capital of the Arab kingdom, Sogres and Lagos all have museums, churches and historic buildings for you to enjoy and Faro has a cathedral which should be on every visitor’s itinerary. The nightlife: After a day on the beach, you’ll never be short of entertainment once the sun goes down. Enjoy the best seafood you’ve ever eaten as you watch the sunset over the sea and then dance the night away in a different location every night because there’s no shortage of venues. Source: Pixabay
