14 | LUXlife Magazine abrador Retrievers make loyal and faithful companions, and it is the mission of Nook on Lyne Labradors to give back to this remarkable breed by contributing morally and ethically to their breeding and sale. Since it was founded in 2019, the business has been working tirelessly to improve the breed and produce happy and healthy puppies that live long, contented lives as part of a loving human family. Now, six years later, Vicky and Mike have achieved a number of milestones and are the region’s go-to Labrador breeders. First and foremost, Nook on Lyne Labradors stands out as a result of its exceptional client engagement, which begins from the moment a person reaches out to the business and shares their interest in one of its pure-bred Labrador puppies. For the first six weeks of the puppies’ lives, clients are treated to regular growth updates in the form of WhatsApp photos and videos, with individual weekly calls also held so that they can see the puppies grow and develop and engage with them virtually, beginning what is sure to be a life-long bond. Aside from sharing regular growth ‘pupdates’ with their clients, the first six weeks see Vicky and Mike profile each of their puppies, carefully observing them and testing how they react to both audio and visual stimuli. As Vicky explained: “This process allows us to gain a better understanding of each individual puppy, such as their temperament and traits, as they develop.” Impressively, all of this is just the beginning of what is a holistic commitment to puppy welfare, which is ultimately Nook on Lyne Labradors’ defining quality. Diving deeper into exactly what this entails, all five of the dogs in the business’ Labrador Retriever breeding programme are afforded advanced DNA testing, carried out by the US-based company Embark. Such superior testing, as well as the pure-bred nature of its Labradors, sees all of the business’ breeding dogs certified clear of a staggering 278 different genetic conditions as of this year. It is this comprehensive testing that allows Nook on Lyne Labradors to guarantee every Labrador puppy is hereditary clear of the tested DNA conditions. Nook on Lyne Labradors also prides itself on demonstrating exceptional client engagement throughout the puppy’s lifetime, with Vicky and Mike only ever being a message or a call away once a Labrador goes home to its new family. This underpins the intimacy of Nook on Lyne Labradors, which benefits immeasurably from its two-person team. The small size of the business sees a maximum of two litters produced per year, allowing Vicky and Mike to dedicate all of their time and effort to each. Whilst Nook on Lyne Labradors may be a small-scale UK dog breeder, the business refuses to get complacent. Working towards their overarching vision of raising the bar in this space, Vicky and Mike constantly educate themselves, undertaking monthly CPD with their fellow industry Best Pure-Bred Labrador Breeder 2025 – UK For Vicky and Mike Rutherford, dogs have always been an important part of their lives – both before they got together and in the years since.
