Jackson discovered a gold vein in Colorado, at the confluence of Chicago Creek and Clear Creek. This discovery kickstarted the development of the surrounding area and Idaho Springs was founded that same year, serving as the centre of the region’s mining district throughout the late nineteenth century. Initially, the area was known as Jackson’s Diggings and over the years evolved into the Idaho Springs we know today, a hub for historical tourism and the largest community in Clear Creek County. Club Hotel was originally built in 1882 as a two-story house, containing two parlours, a dining room, and five bedrooms. In 1895, the house was sold and became a hotel. Through the decades, Club Hotel has witnessed many historical moments within its walls, including the installation of the first telephone in Idaho Springs; serving as a hospital for those affected by the Spanish Influenza in 1918; and even two fires occurring in September and November of 1921.
