22 | LUXlife Magazine Best Waterfront Hotel 2025 – Tasmania A unique, absolutely stunning waterfront location that doubles as both a hotel and a wedding/events venue, the multi-award-winning Panorama Hotel is encompassed by nearly eight acres of natural gardens and lagoons. Thus, not only do guests receive unspoilt views of St Helens, they are also given a front-row seat to enjoy wildlife such as herons, pelicans, sea eagles, and many more. This marks the beginning of an unforgettable experience, something the owner Peter told us more about below. Offering comfortable rooms all complete with an en-suite and private balcony, the Panorama Hotel serves as the perfect location to explore the beauty and cultural richness of the island of Tasmania. The Panorama is just a stone’s throw from the tranquil Georges Bay and centre of town, that offers a number of shops, cafés, and a marina all within a few minutes’ walk. Beaches, bays, and experiences such as mountain biking and fishing also await, making the Panorama the ultimate destination for blending relaxation with adventure. Across 60 rooms, three conference rooms, a grand ballroom, a restaurant and bar area, four lounge retreats, and a seasonal swimming pool, the Panorama prides itself on upholding the highest standards – blending modern amenities with good old-fashioned customer service to attract guests from all over the world. The Panorama is also impeccably clean and beautifully presented across its many spaces, which is a far cry from how it looked when Peter and his family bought it less than two years ago in late 2023. Since purchasing the property, Peter, his family, and the team here have invested a great deal of time and money into re-landscaping and renovating both the Panorama itself and its land. Both the interior and exterior have been restored and renovated, complete with new paint and furniture, and air conditioning and LED lighting have been installed throughout, complementing the overhauls to its newly renovated restaurant and bar and 750 sq. m. waterfront deck. “We have completely turned this hotel business around in 18 months, as evidenced by the change in reviews and the awards we have won. This has been a significant effort not only financially but emotionally, and we will continue to strive to make this the best hotel on the east coast of Tasmania.” As a result of these tireless efforts, the Panorama today works with travel agents from across the world and welcomes guests from every corner of the map. Visitors adore their stay at the Panorama, with many citing the restaurant – which is open seven days a week for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and also offers takeaway meals – as one of the highlights. An ever-changing menu showcases the best local seafood, wines, and produce, and a variety of winter specials are available to keep guests coming year-round, and to hotel also offers live music and stage shows. This feeds into one of the biggest challenges for Peter and the team here. The seasonal nature of the Panorama in days gone by was the main reason for it falling into disrepair, and this is something this team want to ensure never happens again. However, they believe that the current tourism efforts in Tasmania are helping capture the island’s uniquity and beauty. As Peter explained: “Tasmanian tourism and hospitality is extremely seasonal, especially in regional areas, which experience significant growth over summer and the school holidays before returning almost to zero during the winter months. This is an incredible challenge for a hotel of this size, given the number of staff we must support as we maintain our operating hours of 7:00 to 21:00, seven days a week.” Despite the difficulties inherent in being the only one of the restaurants to stay open all year round, the commitment Peter and his team have to making this work is beginning to show, seen through the Panorama winning five awards in the last 18 months alone. With the Panorama now around 90% renovated – the team are currently working their way through the 60 bathrooms – the next steps will see a website overhaul, which is just one of the ways Peter and co. are aiming to promote the business across the region. Appealing both as a vacation destination and the spot of choice for the local community, the refined beauty of the renovated Panorama Hotel – combined with the dedication of its team – make it a fitting of being named the Best Waterfront Hotel 2025 – Tasmania.
