22 | LUXlife Magazine uilt more than 20 years ago, the Panorama Hotel in St Helens is a boutique hotel comprising 60 large, spacious rooms, as well as four conference and function rooms, the Panorama Bistro and Bar, and an amazing waterfront deck. All of this makes the Panorama the ideal place to stay, regardless of whether a guest is on holiday, visiting for work, or attending an event nearby. New ownership has also injected new life into the hotel over recent years, with Peter and Veronica taking over the Panorama back in December 2023. “Since taking over the resort two years ago, the management team, all the staff, and my family have worked tirelessly to renovate the property inside and out”, Veronica told us. From improving all of the customer facilities to enhancing the quality of the food and the service, landscaping and gardening, and more, everything they have done has been about bringing people back to the hotel. Their efforts have been supported by everything from sponsoring local teams to providing live music and entertainment in its bar. The results have been astounding, and it is fair to say that the Panorama is in a better position today than it has been for years. Every member of staff is united under its new values of excellence service and unmatched quality when it comes to food, presentation, cleanliness, and hygiene. All of this in an environment where the team feel relaxed and confident, this as a result of the warmth of the local culture and the cross-skilled training the hotel’s team are provided with, respectively. For guests, what follows is a place that feels like a home away from home, and where they are welcomed, recognised, and appreciated. A big part of creating this atmosphere for guests is encouraging the team to go the extra mile, such as highlighting local tourist attractions and recommending places to go. There is a lot to shout about within the Panorama itself as well, especially its amazing waterfront deck, which features more than 700 square metres of absolute waterfront panorama. This beauty encompasses the Panorama on all sides, as it is surrounded by close to eight acres of natural lagoons and gardens, as well as looking out over the bay and the marina. Guests can enjoy a wide range of birdlife as they look out from the hotel, including pelicans, swans, egrets, herons, sea eagles, and fairywrens. Standing out on their private balcony and watching the birds on the horizon is how many guests start their day here. Once they have finished taking in the morning air, guests can head down to the Panorama Bistro & Deck, where local Tasmanian products are turned into exceptional breakfasts that can be enjoyed either indoors or The highest-rated hotel in St Helens and rated in the top 10 % of hotels worldwide according to Tripadvisor, the Panorama Hotel is a multi-award-winning hotel and the perfect base to explore some of the east coast of Tasmania’s most beautiful locations, including the Bay of Fires, a stunning 50-kilometre stretch of coastline famous for its white-sand beaches, turquoise waters, and orange boulders. For more on the rooms, amenities, and features comprising this waterfront location, we caught up with Peter and Veronica, its owners. out on the deck. Lunch and dinner are also served in this location, where there is a pronounced emphasis on serving the finest meats, seafoods, and wine. The walk-in wine cellar is a particular highlight, and guests can choose a bottle by hand, either to have with dinner or to take home as a keepsake. Retiring to their rooms, which are spread across single and two-storey accommodation and offer en-suite bathrooms, guests can wind down with a smart TV, free Wi-Fi, and all of the other amenities they would expect from a grand hotel, including the facilities to make tea and coffee. Outside of just their rooms, guests also have access to a pool, free parking, and self-service laundry, little touches that are always keenly appreciated. This, ultimately, is what it all comes back to for Peter and Veronica, as these little touches add up to something special: the kind of unforgettable experience they have sought to offer since taking over the Panorama around 30 months ago. To this end, more extensive renovations are planned for the space, with all of its rooms and bathrooms set to receive this treatment over the next 12 to 18 months. Excitingly, this is final stage of the full refurb, meaning that this remarkable hotel is inching ever closer to the duo’s overarching vision.
