LUX September 2017

LUX - September 2017 13 Cosy, Intimate and Stylish Award-winning Chef Davey Cardwell is back in his own kitchen at last. Former head chef of the Quays in Portavogie and after winning the AA Seafood Restaurant of the Year Award in 2006, Davey has always aspired to have his own restaurant. When the opportunity arose he and his partner Leigh welcomed the new challenge. Davey & Leigh did not take long to turn Katch 27 into a cosy 27 seater cafe by day and an intimate and stylish restaurant by night. Katch has a truly impressive breakfast and lunch menu, also a special board with seafood featuring as a speciality. The Friday and Saturday evening menu changes regularly according to the fisherman’s catch. You really can’t get much more freshly sourced produce than locally caught hake, monkfish, Strangford mussels, Portavogie prawn and local lobster. Although seafood is a speciality, Davey and his team cater for every taste, from Northern Irish sirloin, saddleback honey glazed pork cutlets to pan-fried breast of Irish chicken are only a few of the dishes on offer, we also strive to meet any special customer requests outside the menu. Customer satisfaction is the priority, offering a warm and friendly service along with quality food at affordable prices has proved to be a great success, it is advisable to book early for the weekend dining. With ample parking, it is becoming more popular for cyclists and motor cyclists on their coastal runs, we also cater for any special occassion. Katch 27 is a fully licensed restaurant, renowned for serving up mouth-watering dishes. The firm was pleased to win two LUX Hospitality Awards recently: Best Seafood Restaurant - County Down and the LUX Sustainability Award for Locally-Sourced Food - Northern Ireland. To mark these two successes, Leigh Gamble dishes up her thoughts on the story of the firm and their current specialities. “You really can’t get much more freshly sourced produce than locally caught hake, monkfish, Strangford mussels, Portavogie prawn and local lobster.” HO170039
