Page 6 www.lux-review.com LUX 2018 Sport & Recreation Awards Tucked away in a quiet corner of Birmingham, visitors to BCC find the ideal place to both unwind and charge up. The club is a premier, full-service family club, rich in history, which features a scenic 18-hole championship golf course, racquet and paddle courts, a competition-sized pool, fitness facilities as well as both fine and casual dining. Thanks to this array of facilities BCC offers a constant variety of activities and programs for members of all ages and has very active junior sports programming in golf, tennis and swimming. Drawing on its illustrious history, the club offers its members more than just facilities: rather, it provides the prestige, heritage and hospitality that only a long-standing club can truly offer. Originally founded as Birmingham Golf Club, the championship Tom Bendelow design has a rich tradition that includes hosting the 1953 PGA Championship, the 1968 US Women's Amateur and the 1984 US Men's Senior Amateur. The golf course underwent an extensive $2.5 million restoration in 2015 under the direction of consulting architect Bruce Hepner. While Donald Ross made suggestions for Birmingham’s golf course in 1920, it was Tom Bendlelow who designed it in 1911. Bendlelow laid out the first nine holes in 1916 and finished the final nine in 1920. The course was remodeled in 1928, and was again revamped in the 1930s, when golf course architect and five-time Indiana Amateur champion, William Birmingham Country Club (BCC) is a private membership family-oriented country club located in Birmingham, Michigan, twenty minutes north of downtown Detroit. Having recognised the club in our prestigious Sport & Recreation Awards for 2018 we decided to provide an overview of the range of facilities it has to offer to its esteemed members.
