Spring 2019

LUXLIFE MAGAZINE | 73 Spring 2019 Dining at the Signature Restaurant is a must if you’re staying in the hotel, or simply visiting Grasmere. Awarded an AA rosette for culinary excellence, it is famed for its excellent wine list and gourmet menu. The ambience is quietly sophisticated, and the layout spacious yet intimate. There is a fantastic range of robust local produce on the menu, which is creatively delivered in a delicate, fine-dining style. The offerings from the wine cellar are extensive and the wine pairings have been well thought through for each dish. The Signature Restaurant is also host to The Wordsworth Hotel & Spa’s hearty breakfast, providing a fantastic offering of fresh food, including a continental buffet and a hot breakfast menu with all the usual favourites served in local Cumbrian style. For a more casual dining experience there is the Dove Bistro, which offers a roaring fire, a homely, relaxed menu and an expansive selection of local ales. The Bistro also offers two Afternoon Tea options; indulgent or fragrant, depending on how adventurous you’re feeling, the latter being infused with a taste of the Orient! The Wordsworth’s holistic spa is perfectly positioned and at one with nature within the hotel’s beautiful gardens, located at the foot of some of Cumbria’s most impressive mountains. There is a large indoor heated swimming pool, sauna, jacuzzi and treatment rooms where there is an extensive range of therapeutic and beauty treatments using products from the holistic, vegan spa brand Ytsara. The spa area can provide a real treat for weary legs after a long walk! This exquisite hotel is a popular wedding venue in the region, and with its stunning landscaped gardens and mountain backdrop it is clear why. There are a range of beautifully appointed function suites that offer the versatility to host an intimate gathering or a grand celebration. The hotel also has a dedicated wedding coordinator on hand to help turn your dream into a reality. Anyone that’s been to Grasmere knows only too well that the village is synonymous with Gingerbread, and on offer in many of the bedrooms is a gorgeous selection of freshly baked Grasmere Gingerbread®. The Wordsworth Hotel & Spa is perfectly positioned right next to the Grasmere Gingerbread Shop, a tiny shop which was formerly Victorian cook Sarah Nelson’s cottage home. Today it attracts visitors from all over the world, and no visit to Grasmere would be complete without a stop here. In terms of location, Grasmere is in the South Lakes so its within easy distance of the M6. It is one of the smaller lakes in the district and although there is still a good range of facilities, the area does not feel overcrowded, so it’s a fantastic choice if you’re after a bit of peace and quiet. That being said, there is a good selection of pubs, cafes and unique little shops for when the walking gets the better of you.
