Spring 2020
34 As more people use the Plantation Lodge as a space to rest during safaris, many want to experience as much as possible while also being a place of rest and relaxation. While all wish they could stay a little longer, the team go the extra mile to make it feel like it does. The staff advocate a day of relaxation followed by a couple of nights at the lodge, so that their guests have the opportunity to fully appreciate what is on offer. For people visiting from abroad, it is the chance to explore a new culture, see a traditional village or speak to the local people. While a remote hotel, it punches above its weight in delivering the best in modern conveniences. WiFi is available throughout the premises, with 2GB available to each guest on arrival. More subtle, however, is the recent completion of solar panels at the lodge, 90% of which is run on this more sustainable form of energy, while a newly installed irrigation system keeps the visitors’ garden looking lush and leafy. It has also increased the capacity of the vegetable garden capacity, with as many of these as possible grown on site as opposed to brought in. With tourism taking a turn towards the mass market, the central appeal of the Plantation Lodge is its determination to remain focused on the individual. While some places offer the chance to see wonderful views and vista, the Plantation Lodge is an experience in and of itself. Truly, not one to be missed.
