Join us as we take a closer look at Vrban and his company to find out more. Based in beautiful Zagreb, Croatia, Architect Ante Vrban Ltd is the home of renowned architect Ante Vrban. Infamously referred to as the architect of light, this talented creator brings an exciting sense of atmosphere to each and every one of his designs. With over 300 developed projects all over the world, designing for a mix of public and private residences, it seems that there is no limit on what Vrban can do. Designing his first project at the age of 19, Vrban has long held strong opinions on the world of interior design. Long before this, he would offer advice – whether wanted or not! – to family friends that enhanced their homes considerably. We wonder if they knew what would become of the precocious child telling them what to do with their houses. Far from a pretentious designer, all of Vrban’s work starts from the twin starting points of function both inside and out. For the exterior, emphasis is placed on its ability to interact and communicate with nature and the life around the building, whereas the interior places its focus on the human element and how people are able to use the building. This thought process reflects Vrban’s opinion that a house should ‘speak’ and it is clear this plays a major role in the thought process of the man. Another major feature of Vrban’s work is the innovative use of light, glass and mirrors. It is a signature of his work that marks him out from his peers. Although every project is a unique prospect, it is the way in which a room is lit as the day develops that demonstrates the genius of Vrban’s work. During the day, clean lines are accentuated by natural light that bounces and reflects softly off every surface. When the night comes, the same is true, with the building gaining a new character that is nonetheless immensely appealing. Perhaps the ultimate display of Vrban’s work can be found in his own beach house on the Adriatic coast. Designed first and foremost as a Summer retreat, this delightful property exemplifies every element of Vrban’s ideals as a designer. It certainly earns the name of Chameleon House, as through the careful use and positioning of glass and mirrors, this pavilion sits comfortably in its environment, nestled between oleanders and pine trees. Large windows allow a gorgeous view of the superb sea and sand while further placing the property comfortably within its environment. This double success allows the building to almost vanish into its surroundings. Without the need to compromise, this is an untainted perspective on what this talented architect wants to achieve with his pieces. It is an incredible building, easily earning the title of art in its own right. Comfortably one of the most highly regarded architects in Europe, Vrban is often called upon to leave his mark on buildings across the world. With the rare ability to create a sense of simplicity, elegance and pure luxury, it’s no surprise he’s such a popular designer in high demand. Although currently booked up until September 2022, it’s clear from his work that this is a man who is well worth the wait. Company: Architect Ante Vrban Ltd Contact: Branka Borovinsek
