Specialising in residential interiors, and quickly building a reputation for their quality of work, Coulby Interiors have long been considered one of the very best interior design firms in East Anglia. In March, they were named in LUXlife’s Leading Designer Awards, with the title of Most Outstanding Interior Design Team of 2018. On the back of their win, we were eager to find out more about the company, and how they have achieved their success. Coulby Interiors was founded by Rebecca Coulby eight years ago, after realising that there was a very real demand for an interiors company that could offer one complete service including professional interior design through to a fully project managed in-house build and installation service in the Norfolk and Suffolk area. Specialising in residential design, Rebecca has developed a niche – a focus on kitchens, bathrooms, interior design and renovations - allowing her to hone her talents, and create a consistent excellence in her services. Naturally, being full- service, Rebecca has surrounded herself with an expert team of builders, carpenters, plumbers, electricians and painters that have helped realise her vision of a seamless process for her clients and her team alike. This, along with a three-step principle, building on the strength of bespoke design, quality materials and project management, has created a solid foundation on which the company has grown and flourished. Rebecca’s work can best be described as ‘modern rustic’, or in her own words – “contemporary meets country”, an influence of her native Norfolk. Her designs and design styles range in accordance with the huge variety of properties that Norfolk and Suffolk have to offer, from historical listed buildings, through to modern glass and steel structures. ‘I am often designing around historical features, such as exposed beams, fireplaces, and brickwork, and will either offer a sympathetic traditional design, or provide a vibrant contrast with sleek, clean moderm lines and materials, depending upon my client’s wishes.’ Regardless of the project, Rebecca believes that collaboration with the client is, ultimately, pivotal to its success – the client’s brief a focal point on which the entire project is built. This is undoubtedly more important in full-service firms, where the entire project is left in the hands of the designer. Client satisfaction rests on the effectiveness and efficiency of that communication. Perhaps, nothing offers more of a testament to Rebecca’s ability as an interior designer than the fact that, in 2017, repeat custom and referrals comprised over 60% of her business. This pattern certainly looks set to continue throughout the remainder of 2018, and beyond. The Leading Designer Awards were launched to recognise the work of designers from all over the world who were pushing the boundaries of the industry.
