Summer 2020
Mar20360 A Magic Spark SPARK is a Singapore, Shanghai and London based team of designers and thinkers who work in the disciplines of architecture, urbanism, interior design, landscape design, research and branding. Recognised as one of the most innovative urban design firms, we decided to take a closer look at the enticing business to discover how they create extraordinary pieces of work. For more than a decade, the team at SPARK have used the evocation of the studio’s name to create stimulating, innovative, award-winning buildings and urban environments that generate significant added value for their clients. Throughout the years, the studio has built a large number of award-winning projects across Asia, Europe, and the Middle East. Inspired by the constant evolution of contemporary life and the influences upon it that requires a fresh approach to urban thinking, much of SPARK’s work ranges in scale from boutique shops, residential and civic buildings to name but a few. With any project undertaken by the studio, the team will always do their very best to design buildings which are suited to the clients’ particular needs. From the beginning of any project, the team make it abundantly clear to clients that SPARK is designing their specific building, to suit their particular needs rather than pursuing the next stage in the evolution of their particular design mantra, with little regard for the needs of the client. When any of SPARK’s remarkable projects has a successful outcome, whether it exceeds the expectations of clients or is recognised with an award, it fuels the studio’s growth as a practice. Enabling the studio to create these award-winning projects, is the team of open- minded, hardworking, energetic and willing to learn team of designers who want to explore and push boundaries. Having worked on countless projects over the years, SPARK still today works across a number of building sectors, which includes residential, hospitality, retail and even culture. Despite the climate we are facing, 2020 is set to be a bright year for studio as it will see the competition of SPARK’s “Grid” in Singapore. Grid is a youth themed retail and educational hub, as well as a regeneration for part of the riverfront in Shanghai’s Minghang district and a series of clubhouses in Pune, India. In recent months, the SPARK team have started a major waterfront development in Guangzhou, a banking headquarters on the site of Shanghai’s 2010 EXPO and the transformation of a former handkerchief factory into studio space for the decoration industry. Here at LUXlife, we simply cannot wait to see the building once completed.
