Best Bird-Inspired Artist 2023: Georgie Woolridge Primarily working with tiny, intricate patterns, Georgie enjoys seeing her drawings take shape and evolve from a few small doodles into a finished piece. She creates her designs using a mixture of pen and watercolours, then hand embellishes the completed works with lustrous metallic gold in combination with touches of pearl and sparkles to create an overall sense of texture and luxury. When light shines on her pieces, it really brings them to life. On Georgie’s Folksy store, customers can find a range of beautiful, vibrant prints of original artworks that depict flowers, birds, and other animals like foxes, hedgehogs, horses, and more. For a loved one who is passionate about art and nature, a piece from Georgie would truly make the perfect gift. “I think the perfect gift should make the recipient feel special,” she explains. “It should show some kind of connection to them whether it be their favourite bird or something that symbolises a significant thing in their lives.” For the beautiful work she produces and sells, Georgie has amassed an impressive five-star rating on Folksy, with many satisfied customers leaving her glowing reviews. For example, one states, “Purchased both these prints as gifts, one for my daughter and one for my mother-inlaw. Both absolutely loved them. Quality is fantastic, so much detail. Beautiful work from an inspirational artist.” As a result of her continued excellence and creativity, Georgie Woolridge has been named Best Bird-Inspired Artist as part of The Perfect Gift Awards 2023. We are thrilled to congratulate her on this impressive accomplishment! With regards to her future plans, Georgie comments, “I want to continue to create things that people truly love and can connect with. I would love to create some really huge pieces where I can add a tonne of sparkle and really show off the beauty of nature!” Contact: Georgie Woolridge Company: Georgie Woolridge Web Address: https://folksy.com/shops/Georgiewoolridge n 2010, Georgie Woolridge graduated from Loughborough university with a degree in art foundation and woven textiles. While she thoroughly enjoyed her course, she was unsure about her next steps, like many graduates. That was when she came across the opportunity to spend three months on a design placement in Mumbai, India, with an interior design company. With nothing to lose, Georgie decided to apply and was thrilled when she was accepted. In Mumbai, Georgie embarked on an incredible yet challenging journey, producing hand drawn designs in repeat for drapery, upholstery, and embroidery. Having developed a more contemporary style throughout her studies, she was challenged to create designs that fit in with the company’s more traditional work. As the weeks went on, Georgie gained confidence and, by the end of her placement, many of her designs were featured in the company’s catalogues. She was thrilled to see her creations in fabric, knowing that they would end up in someone’s home. “Much of my inspiration stems from India,” Georgie shares. “I was completely taken over by the magical colours and patterns. Walking through the streets, seeing the beautiful saris glisten and experiencing the hustle and bustle of the markets was absolutely beautiful and so inspiring." After three months in Mumbai, Georgie went on to travel the world, visiting places like Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore, Australia, and New Zealand. When she returned to England, she started to draw. Today, Georgie is passionate about expressing her zest for the natural world through fine, intricate details and colour. Over the years, birds have become a major source of inspiration for her because of their visually appealing colours and shapes. She explains, “I love to create things that are unique and based on my own views of nature. They are somewhat realistic but have also been recreated in my own way by adding patterns and sometimes different colours to what they would be in real life. I also think composition is hugely important and can really draw in someone’s eye.” I
