Page 30 www.lux-review.com LUX Travel and Tourism Awards 2020 World Wheel Company (Newcastle) Ltd builds giant observation wheels and other family entertainment and retail experiences and is currently developing Giants on the Quayside – an iconic project designed to meet Newcastle’s specific market needs. As a vertically integrated company, specialising in the Leisure & Tourism Development industry, World Wheel Company (WWC) has a staff base with significant experience and expertise in Corporate Management, Operations, Marketing, Attraction Engineering and Financial Management. It is therefore capable of delivering world-class experiences to customers, from initial conceptualisation through to service delivery. In July 2019, WWC received planning consent from Newcastle City Council for its Giants on the Quayside development. The project, built on a derelict site, will cover 344,445 sq/ft (32,000 sq. m) in total and will be built around a giant observation wheel – dubbed ‘The Whey Aye’ in celebration of its location. The wheel standing, nearly 460ft (140 m) high, will be 16ft (5 m) taller than the London Eye. The development is made up of a number of operating divisions all generating revenue in their own right and allowing for commercial success and sustainability. The Quays will comprise three individual buildings which will house a maximum of 15 food and beverage units. These units will be two-stories offering a spacious, friendly and welcoming experience with outdoor seating areas on both floors. World Wheel Company was recently awarded the prestigious title of Best Family Entertainment Experiences Developer – UK by LUXlife magazine for the work it is undertaking on Newcastle’s iconic quayside. Best Family Entertainment Experiences Developer - UK The Atrium is to be a five story building containing another five food and beverage experiences, from coffee shops to the planned private members’ bar. These establishments will be owned and managed by WWC. The Atrium is also the loading area for the Whey Aye and home to the development’s security and operations teams. There will be an LED screen incorporated into the western façade of the atrium building, which will carry user- generated content and advertising.
