When American couple, Edward and Cindy Anderson, acquired a river yacht that formerly belonged to the De Kuyper family, it was with one aim in mind. Renovating the Grand Victoria, Edward and Cindy transformed her into a luxury private charter yacht to delight visitors from around the world. Equipped with plush cabins and a spacious salon and dining area, the yacht also features an outdoor hot tub from where to watch the world float by. Edward says, “Our barge cruises make a lasting impression. By day, guests are treated to the beautiful scenery of France. By night, star-gazing often leaves them speechless. As well as a feeling of anticipation of what’s to come, there’s a kind of meditative calm that descends as we wind our way from one destination to the next.” Grand Victoria cruises are a select affair. Waterways & Beyond welcomes up to 6 guests on board at a time. Themed itineraries include Classic Burgundy, a wine-tasting tour featuring visits to chateaux and villages along river Saone. A Culinary Journey teaches guests the secrets of world-renowned French gastronomy. And there’s a Jazz and Wine Tour that travels from Suerre to Lyon. Being a private charter gives the company the flexibility to build itineraries adapted to individual interests too. Edward tells us, “It’s exceptional moments that make long-lasting memories – and a little spontaneity too. Whether our clients are looking for an active adventure in the picturesque French countryside, a relaxed cruise down the scenic waterways, or something in between, we’re ready to help make that happen. Edward is at the helm as both captain and tour guide. His wife Cindy takes charge of the interior of the yacht, and their son, Alexander, helps out on deck. Onboard, staff include two hostesses and an executive chef serving impeccable menus featuring stunning fresh local produce. Although most meals are onboard, guests are also invited to lunch at a local brasserie and a Michelin-star restaurant. The all-inclusive cruises appeal to families and groups of friends alike, all looking to explore the delights of the region.
