With a new year on the horizon, many customers will be looking to invigorate their homes for the year ahead.
In light of this, leading bathroom supplier Sanctuary Bathrooms has collaborated with leading manufacturers, brands, and interior experts to unveil their predictions on bathroom trends that will dominate in 2024.
1. Coloured brassware
Coloured brassware will surge in popularity in the upcoming year. There has been a shift in customers’ preferences for brassware colours, with the standard chrome finishes now not the number one choice. Expect to see brushed brass and matte black become more popular amongst customers as a way of adding a premium look to their bathrooms.
Supporting this, Retail Sales Manager at Villeroy & Boch Jamie Paradise comments: “We are seeing more manufacturers developing their offerings and introducing additional finishes to the market. Consumers are being more adventurous when it comes to colour schemes too, with our brushed and matte colours exceeding initial forecasts.”
2. Fluted details
Fluted fixtures are gaining momentum and are popular features for those wanting to experiment with their bathroom interiors. Characterised by their shallow grooves, fluted designs can be incorporated into shower screens or vanity units to add luxury, a hotel-like design, and a point of difference to a bathroom.
3. Wetrooms, walk-in showers, and freestanding baths
When it comes to bath and shower trends for 2024, space-saving products are key. Throughout 2023, wetrooms and walk-in showers remained popular, with demand expected to carry through into 2024. Marketing Manager at Geberit, Sophie Weston, said: “Wet rooms are increasing in popularity and will continue to do so in 2024. Alongside being much more accessible, wet rooms are also a great option for smaller bathrooms where a bath isn’t required.”
When it comes to baths, compact baths are set to be big in 2024. Nigel Palmer, Head of Communications Marketing at House of Rohl, which includes brands like Victoria + Albert Baths, added: “We have seen increased interest in compact freestanding baths, suggesting that customers recognise they are trying to accommodate them even in smaller bathrooms.”
4. Bolder colours
Customers are becoming more experimental in their homes when it comes to colour. They are no longer seeing a white functional box, but incorporating more colour and textures into the space to add personality to the space. In 2024, there will be a surge in popularity for earth tones like warm terracotta and burnt oranges, alongside blues, greens, and purples.
Emilie Fournet, an interior designer from London, (@emiliefournetinteriors) said: “The shift towards neutral and warmer hues will carry on. Gone are the stark white bathrooms, and people are moving towards the earthy and warmer colours.”
5. Natural materials and earthy textures
Natural materials and earthy textures have been identified as a bathroom trend that will become popular over the next few years as bathrooms incorporate the outside world to create a space of tranquillity. This includes the use of clay and terracotta with sun-baked hues and mid-dark wood tones. As Villeroy & Boch’s Jamie Paradise adds, “Matte colours, wood effect finishes, and natural earthy tones will continue to be popular in 2024 from both a tile and bathroom furniture perspective.”
Commenting on the overall research, James Roberts, Director of Sanctuary Bathrooms, adds: “Trends are hugely important in shaping product offering and catering to demand, so it is always important to stay in the loop with what customers are looking at so that tradespeople in the bathroom industry are aware of what’s in demand too.
“Trend predictions for 2024 show a recurring focus on some of the most popular themes ourselves and our network of bathroom installers have seen in recent years, including natural materials, coloured brassware, and a move towards more personality in bathrooms.
“The cost of living crisis is having an effect on homeowners’ renovation plans, so it’s expected that the industry as a whole will be quieter. However, spring and summer continue to be the most popular time of year for renovations, so we expect to see more consumer demand at this time.”
