The Scottish brand Glenmuir, which specialises in knitwear of the finest quality, are celebrating their upcoming 130th anniversary with a limited-edition heritage collection being released at the beginning of October.
Glenmuir are pioneers in golf clothing, first establishing themselves in 1891. The brand have started celebrating their landmark anniversary early by releasing the upcoming collection, inspired by their knitwear from across 130 years.
From the brands beginnings, to 130-years in the making, LUXlife uncovers how Glenmuir has continued to be successful throughout the centuries, leading to the company’s celebration with the new milestone collection.
The History of Glenmuir
Glenmuir was founded by local businessman Andrew MacDougall when he set up a knitwear factory in Lanark, Scotland. MacDougall was the inventor of new power-driven machinery which simplified the manufacture of fancy golf wear.
The company remains loyal to its roots to this day, as it is still a family run business, dedicated to fine craftmanship and detail, with the original factory remaining as its headquarters. This rich heritage is what continues to inspire the brand, however they also continue to develop and embrace new knitwear technology trends.
The company have always worked with natural fibres which are renewable and environmentally friendly and are committed to maintaining this sustainability as advocates of their #GlenmuirCare campaign
The Company’s Success
Glenmuir has continued to go from strength to strength with the company being the Official Apparel supplier to the Professional Golfers’ Association and the Official Licensee of the 2018 Ryder Cup, and they are close to being appointed as Official Licensees for the 2020 and 2022 Ryder Cups.
Known for producing the finest unisex golf hose and with a history rich in prestige, Glenmuir knitwear is exported from Lanark and retailed in luxury golf resorts globally in over thirty countries including Switzerland, France, Germany, Belgium, Sweden, Australia, South Africa, Russia and South Korea. This is one of the keys to its many successes as the clothing suits the taste of golfers worldwide, and the reputation associated with Scottish quality and British design means the products are in high demand. The strength of the brands knowledge and expertise on customs and the speed of delivery have all led to growth in the export markets.
The brands eye for detail and impeccable service has also contributed to its longevity, as they consider different climates and seasonal timings when creating their products to suit different countries worldwide- lambswool being popular in Scandinavia and Merino wool more adaptable for warmer climates. Glenmuir also offer a personalised embroidery service which customers continue to put their trust in.
Glenmuir continues to look forward to growing the brand even more, serving customers in the UK, Europe and beyond.

The collection utilises the “1891” word mark in a fresh and contemporary way which pays homage to the brand’s heritage of producing elegant sporting goods since 1891.

The styles comprise of two chunky knits, the roll neck g.Morgan which intarsia stripe detail and the g.Spencer (pictured in the featured image) which is a round neck with intarsia striped chest panels and stripes on the rib collar and sleeves. A luxury jersey sweatshirt style g.Tyler is a contemporary luxury take on a classic sports sweatshirt.
