Epitomising glamour, elegance and style, The Savoy is London’s most iconic luxury hotel and home to The River Restaurant – the first London seafood restaurant by multi-Michelin starred chef, Gordon Ramsay. With season two of ITV’s must-watch ‘behind the scenes’ insight into The Savoy due back on our screens in June this year, Gordon Ramsay Restaurants are delighted to introduce the talented team preparing and serving the best seafood in town.
Nestling in the heart of The Savoy, the room in which the art deco style River Restaurant resides has played host to high society for over a hundred years. Acclaimed interior designer, Russel Sage Studio, has breathed new life into this impressive space, whilst the exceptionally talented Executive Head Chef, Andrew Sawyer, ensures The River Restaurant’s guests are treated to the freshest and finest seafood Britain has to offer. His inspirational menus celebrate the very best seasonal produce available in the UK and are constantly evolving, with a same day sea-to-plate approach. All of the seafood is responsibly sourced from the British Isles by the restaurant’s in-house fishmonger, who then prepares and serves each piece of fish in less than 24 hours.
“The UK has some of the finest shellfish and seafood in the world” said Gordon Ramsay “I’m delighted we are showcasing all of this amazing produce from across the UK and supporting the hard-working providers too. The Savoy is an incredibly special hotel and honestly, I have no doubt that The River Restaurant is one of the best seafood restaurants in London right now.”
With a clean style of cooking that showcases the main ingredient, Andrew adds a twist of playfulness and nostalgia to all his creations. Menu highlights include Tandoori Spiced Monkfish served with golden crispy pakora and fragrant curry sauce, and Cider-Battered Rock with fresh peas and a warm tartare sauce, as well as the show stopping Chilled Dressed Shellfish Platter consisting of lobster, crab, scallop, mussels, oysters and clams.
His signature Mango and Coconut Knickerbocker Glory took inspiration childhood memories of eating ice cream with his brother.
“I’m over the moon to have joined the Gordon Ramsay team and to lead the brigade here at The River Restaurant. Fish is my greatest passion in cooking, and I’ve spent years learning the intricacies and skills behind sourcing and serving the very best fish available. We’ve such great respect for the ingredient and the processes we put in place, and you won’t get finer seafood in London.” – Andrew Sawyer, Executive Head Chef.
By Andrew’s side is Senior Sous Chef, Dennis, who brings a wealth of experience to the restaurant, having spent over 10 years working in Michelin starred and fine dining restaurants and hotels.
With his unique knowledge and expertise of first class dining, Restaurant General Manager, Amit Crozier and his team guarantee every visit to the River Restaurant will be unforgettable experience.
With a sophisticated interior, a relaxed atmosphere and a luxurious ambience, it is the perfect location for any occasion, be it a business breakfast meeting to the most special of occasions.
The River Restaurant is open seven days a week from 7am, Monday to Friday, offering all day dining for guests to enjoy. The breakfast menu boasts a mixture of classic dishes with a twist, such as delicately smoked Haddock served over a golden potato pancake with mustard crème fraiche. Lunch and dinner are served from 12pm, Monday to Sunday, offering a la carte, set lunch, tasting, and private dining menus.
