From the bride’s dress, to the service, to the cake, to the music- royal weddings are some of the most lavish ceremonies in the world. With weddings so full of style, it makes sense that the Royals also arrive and leave the venue in fashion. Whether it be the wedding getaway cars, security or custom-made vehicles, the experts at Design 911 have rundown the best royal wedding cars of all time.
1) Harry and Meghan’s Jaguar E Type
One of the most discussed events of 2018 was Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding. Transporting the happy couple to their wedding reception at Frogmore House was the Jaguar E-Type. Originally manufactured in 1968, this car was proclaimed ‘the most beautiful car in the world’ by Enzo Ferrari. A sports car masterpiece- this vintage car can rev from 0 to 100 kph in just 5.5 seconds and is kitted with a 220kW engine. The £350,000 electric car even showed off a custom number plate of the date of the royal nuptials.
2) William and Kate's Aston Martin Volante
Leaving Buckingham Palace in an open top dark blue Aston Martin DB6 MkII, Kate and William were cheered by the British public as they left the royal wedding ceremony. The car, which originally belonged to the Prince of Wales, was decorated with red, white and blue streamers and rosettes and an ‘L’ learner plate at the front. Alongside this were black, silver and red heart shaped balloons with the initials of ‘W’ and ‘C’ on it. A custom yellow rear number plate read ‘JU5T WED’ at the back of the car.
3) Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank’s getaway in an Aston Martin DB10
Quite literally a jaw dropping car- Princess Eugenie was open mouthed when she first saw the Aston Martin DB10 her and her husband, Prince Andrew, were getting away in. Originally designed for the James Bond movie ‘Spectre’, the car boasts a top speed of 190mph and has a carbon fibre body, complimented by a luxury leather interior. It’s rumored that Prince Andrew joked ‘no pressure’ to Mr Garty as he moved the car forward a few feet.
4) Queen Elizabeth's one-of-a-kind armored Bentley State Limosuine
To celebrate the Golden Jubilee, Bentley created a one of a kind armored state limousine for the Queen, which she used to arrive at Prince Harry and Megan Markle’s wedding. On their website Bentley Motors state ‘It was necessary to extend the wheelbase, to afford more room for passengers in the back. It is also wider than a production Arnage and, importantly, the roof is set higher, making it easier for Her Majesty to get out in a suitably dignified manner.
To ensure that as many well-wishers as possible have the opportunity to see The Queen, the team at Mulliner created a ‘panoramic glasshouse’ with greater visibility from the outside than can be found on any other car. The car’s security features must remain secret for obvious reasons. But suffice to say that it safeguards its occupants in a way that no other could.’ Bentley has always been a favorite of the Queen Elizabeth’s as she previously gifted Bentley not one, but two Royal Warrants.
5) Lady Gabriella Windsor and Thomas Kingston’s claret colored vintage cabriolet
It was the third royal wedding to be held at Windsor Castle’s St George’s Chapel in less than a year- Lady Gabriella Windsor married her long-term boyfriend, Thomas Kingston. Arriving at the chapel with her proud father, Prince Michael of Kent, she stepped out of a claret colored vintage cabriolet wearing a lace gown designed by Italian designer Luisa Beccaria. Keeping to the vintage theme, her guests also arrived in style via vintage buses.
6) The Prince of Wales and Camilla Parker Bowles chauffeured in a Rolls-Royce Phantom VI painted in Royal claret livery
As tradition follows, The Prince of Wales and Camilla Bowles left Windsor Castle together in a Rolls Royce Phantom VI to travel to Guildhall. Painted in Royal claret livery, the car was originally presented to the Queen for her Silver Jubilee in 1978. In 1999, the Earl and Countess of Wessex also used the same car for their wedding at Windsor.
7) Range Rover security
Since Land Rover launched Range Rover in 1970, it has been a royal family staple at every royal wedding since. However, these Range Rovers are not driven by the Royals themselves but their fleet of security. Every royal limousine is accompanied by several Range Rovers driven by police, armed guards and the British secret service. The day after Prince Harry and Meghan’s wedding, the Queen was seen in yet another Range Rover with a dog, rumored to be Meghan Markle’s.
