Melanie Stidolph

Melanie Stidolph is a Cornwall-based artist. Her work touches on grief and longing from a position of desire, giving form and sound to a state of tender tension.

Initially gaining recognition for picturing understated subjects; poised between staged and documentary photographic traditions. Practice developed from direct experience to inviting others to make work with her, exploring practices of care and healing.

‘The next dawn, the next spring’ (2023) was made with women who are childless or struggling to conceive, forming a choir to sing a lament to the sea. Work in progress ’Turning to Stone’ presents images on silk, held in tension with red thread.
