Autumn 2026 | 11 Best Events Venue 2026 – Oslo Choosing the right events venue in a city as beautiful as Oslo is no easy task. With dozens of hireable spaces to its name across its expansive events house, and more through its partner, Sentralen takes away this difficulty. Its building, an old bank, is remarkable and scenic at every turn, and the services of an expert team ensure every event goes smoothly. Nanna Flobak and Rikke Haakenstuen told us more about Sentralen following its recognition in our Hospitality Awards 2026. Occupying two joined buildings that were once the home of Christiana Sparebank, the first savings bank in Norway, Sentralen is a six-storey events house offering 30 hireable rooms. Based in the Kvadraturen area of Oslo, which is rich in history, the building was first purchased by Christiana Sparebank in the mid1800s, before it underwent a significant rebuild between 1899 and 1901. Expansions would take place throughout the early 20th century, with the building then reopening as an events house in 2016. The history of the location is so important as it is this which gives its event spaces their unique character. For example, Marmorsalen, the biggest of Sentralen’s spaces at a capacity of 1,000 people standing, is the bank’s old ground floor banking hall. To this day, it keeps the original stone floor and Fauske marble, has a ceiling that is nine metres high in places, and fantastic acoustics. It is one of Oslo’s largest concert rooms, and has been modernised through the likes of neon light installation and blackout curtain systems. This is just the beginning, and some of the other one-of-a-kind spaces housed within Sentralen include old bank vaults (the walls of which were built with railway tracks crossed through the masonry to protect against theft) that have been converted into studios and meeting rooms, as well as a rooftop bar and Restaurant Hitchhiker. Sentralen also hires four venues on behalf of the National Museum – Architecture down the road. Across all of these spaces, Sentralen hosts a variety of concerts, workshops, banquets, conferences, panel debates, award shows, meetings, and parties. Those who rent from it are primarily in the cultural, creative, and business worlds, and Sentralen will work closely with both these renters and the people who attend their events at its premises. When a client books a venue with Sentralen, they also receive an appointed producer who will assist them in managing the practical and technical details of their event. The teams behind this award-winning events venue have a decade of experience facilitating gatherings of every shape and size, from intimate weddings to major conferences with hundreds of people, and they leverage this to make every event truly unforgettable. Nanna explained: “We want to make a memorable experience by being a place that isn’t just venue rental. We want our guests and organisers to feel personally taken care of, and that they are in safe hands with us. We want them to feel like we go the extra mile to make sure that their event or visit with us is something they can cherish for a long time.” Upholding this is the common goal across the three teams behind the administration: sales and booking, marketing and communications, and production. Rikke added: “We aim to go the extra mile for our clients, making sure they feel taken care of by offering our expertise in areas where organisers may not feel as confident themselves. That could mean saying ‘we think this kind of setup would suit your vision best’ or ‘we’d recommend this kind of lighting’.” It is then up to the event hosts to take clients over the line. Proactive in making sure nothing goes wrong, any hiccups are handled quickly and professionally by these hosts, who reflect the positive attitude Sentralen itself stands for. This includes greeting guests with a warm smile, helping them find where in the venue they are going, and catering to their every need. With most of its staff being in the events space for years, they do this seamlessly, guided by a real passion for their work. Celebrating its tenth anniversary this year, Sentralen and its teams have been looking back at what they have accomplished over the last decade, and what the next ten years look like for the venue. Ultimately, they involve continuing to set the bar for quality events in Oslo, as well as maintaining the highest standards across everything from Restaurant Hitchhiker to its event programme. In doing so, Sentralen continues to be the go-to for those looking for venue rental in Oslo, a distinction we are delighted to reflect through this award.
