Plan your flight arrival, hotel access and dining reservations together. An early landing can leave you waiting hours for a room, while a formal dinner across town can make arrival day needlessly tiring. Before paying for upgrades, check how each booking fits the rest of the trip.

This guide covers the journey, entry documents, airport transfer, hotel and dining reservations. The details reflect published information checked on 4 November 2026, rather than first-hand flights or stays. Recheck them against your dates. Heathrow’s published 15-minute rail journey to Paddington, for example, covers only the train segment, excluding airport processing and onward travel.

Choose the Flight Around Your Arrival

Flights between Perth and London Heathrow connect through hubs in Asia and the Middle East. Compare when the final sector lands, how long you have between flights and what the ticket allows if plans change. Check the dated itinerary before booking, since a general route description may not reflect your departure.

Compare the whole ticket. Start with the London arrival time and compare it with the hotel’s check-in time, allowing for immigration, baggage collection and the transfer. Then check the connection length, operating airline and cabin on each sector, checked baggage allowance, and change and refund conditions. A cheaper fare may have restrictions that make it less suitable for your plans.

On the Perth to London route, Cathay Pacific connects through Hong Kong to Heathrow, with a total journey of around 24 hours and 55 minutes including the layover and arrival at Terminal 3. Its three Economy fares, Light, Essential and Flexi, give travellers a way to compare ticket conditions within the same cabin. Treat any displayed price as a quote for that search, and compare other carriers’ connecting itineraries on arrival time, layover length and fare conditions.

What to compare Why it matters
Connection point and layover length A short layover saves time; a longer one gives you room to rest and absorbs delays
London arrival time Determines how long you may wait for your hotel room
Cabin on each sector A premium seat on one flight does not guarantee the same on the next
Fare conditions Change, refund and baggage terms vary by fare type

The connection point alone tells you little about the total journey: compare the layover and final arrival time together.

Check each sector. Confirm the cabin on every flight, since a premium seat on one sector does not guarantee the same on another. If you already hold your onward boarding pass, you can go straight through transfer security at your connecting airport; otherwise, transfer desks can help. Check aircraft, seating and lounge eligibility for the flights you book, and allow for changes.

Choose between transit and a stopover. Decide whether you want to remain airside or leave the airport for an overnight stay. A stopover adds accommodation, transfer and entry-document decisions. Compare the revised itinerary before booking it, including its effect on your London arrival and first hotel night.

Sort the Entry Documents Before Departure

Most UK visitors need an electronic travel authorisation (ETA) or a visa, unless an exemption applies. Your citizenship and circumstances determine the requirement; departing from Perth does not. Check each traveller separately, especially if your group uses different passports.

Check the passport you will use. Establish whether you qualify for an ETA before applying. Dual citizens with British or Irish citizenship cannot obtain one and should check the documentation required for their circumstances. An ETA is linked to the passport used in the application, so renewing that passport requires attention before travel. Keep the passport and permission details together when checking your bookings.

Apply through official channels. The official ETA application costs £20 through the UK government website or UK ETA app. Apply ahead of travel and wait for confirmation rather than relying on a decision at the airport. Since 25 February 2026, the UK has enforced digital permission-to-travel requirements. Airlines can prevent boarding where the required ETA, eVisa or other valid documentation is absent. Border officials make the entry decision on arrival.

Check stopover requirements. An itinerary through Hong Kong lets you compare an airside connection with a separate city stay. Leaving the airport for a stopover means entering Hong Kong as a visitor, so check those entry conditions before booking accommodation. Australian Government advice says Australian travellers generally do not need a visa for a visitor stay of less than 90 days, but individual circumstances can differ.

Review current official advice for the United Kingdom and any stopover destination before departure. Smartraveller warns that entry and exit conditions can change at short notice. Keep confirmation of any required permission accessible with your travel documents.

Plan the Heathrow-to-Hotel Transfer

Choose the transfer around your luggage, hotel address and arrival time. Compare the complete route from terminal to hotel entrance, including any changes and walking, before deciding between rail, a taxi and a pre-arranged car.

Rail for a straightforward onward route. Heathrow publishes a 15-minute Heathrow Express journey between Terminals 2 and 3 and London Paddington. Immigration, baggage collection, the walk to the platform and travel from Paddington to your hotel are additional. Check how you will complete that final leg, particularly with large cases.

The Elizabeth line serves Heathrow Terminals 2 and 3, Terminal 4 and Terminal 5. Compare its onward route with your hotel’s location, and verify the service for your arrival date. Leave room in the plan for timetable changes or engineering work.

Car for a direct hotel transfer. A pre-arranged car can take you and your luggage to the hotel entrance without a rail connection. Confirm where the driver will meet you and how the booking handles a delayed flight. Black-taxi ranks are available outside each Heathrow terminal if you prefer to use the rank or need an alternative to a booked car.

Road journey times depend on traffic. A car may be easier with several large cases, while rail may suit a hotel with a convenient onward connection. Compare that practical effort alongside the expected journey time.

Confirm the arrival plan. Save the details you will need before leaving Perth:

  • Note the terminal for your final flight and check the rail service that serves it.
  • Count your luggage and confirm that a booked vehicle can carry it.
  • Save the driver’s meeting instructions and contact details offline.
  • Tell the hotel your expected arrival time, confirm when the room will be available and ask about luggage storage if you will be early.
  • Keep the hotel’s full street address available for a taxi driver.

Choose a Luxury Stay for the Trip You Want

Start with the neighbourhood where you expect to spend your evenings, then choose a room category with features you will use. The following properties offer distinct published suite options. The suitability notes are based on those descriptions rather than a first-hand stay. Industry recognition, such as this year’s luxury travel and tourism awards, can help with a shortlist, but the room category you book matters more than any accolade.

Claridge’s, Mayfair. The hotel lists terrace-suite categories, including Claridge’s Terrace Suite, with a private terrace. Book a category that explicitly includes this feature if outdoor space matters to your stay. The spa welcomes both hotel guests and visitors; confirm access, treatment availability and charges separately rather than assuming they are included in the room rate. This option suits a Mayfair base, particularly if you expect to spend evenings in the area.

The Savoy, Strand. The hotel offers named River View Suites. Its One Bedroom River View Suite is listed at 61 square metres, a measurement that applies to that suite rather than a standard room. Choose and confirm the specific category if the river outlook is a priority. Photographs of a suite should not set expectations for a different room booking.

Hotel Setting Published accommodation feature Booking question
Claridge’s Mayfair Terrace-suite categories, including Claridge’s Terrace Suite Does the confirmed category include a private terrace?
The Savoy Strand Named River View Suites Does the confirmed category include the river view you want?

Ask the reservations team to confirm the exact category and inclusions in writing. Check cancellation conditions and the deadline for changing dates before paying. If a terrace or view is the reason for choosing the hotel, make sure the confirmation names the relevant category.

Discuss arrival-day access at the same time. Give the hotel your flight’s landing time, allow for the airport transfer and ask when the room will be available. Confirm luggage storage if you expect to arrive early. Nightly rates vary with dates and category, so compare quotes with the same inclusions and cancellation terms.

Plan Dining Around the Rest of Your Stay

Michelin’s 2026 selection lists 84 starred restaurants in London. A short trip needs a selective dining plan: choose the meals you most want, place them around the rest of the day and read the reservation conditions. These examples offer different formats and neighbourhoods rather than a ranking.

A formal occasion. The Ritz Restaurant does not permit jeans or sportswear, so check the full dress requirements before packing in Perth. The venue also asks for notice of special dietary requirements at least 48 hours before the reservation. Advance notice does not guarantee that every requirement can be accommodated; confirm suitability before committing to the booking. Schedule a formal meal for an evening when you expect to have the energy to enjoy it.

A different neighbourhood and cuisine. Legado is a Spanish restaurant in Shoreditch associated with chef Nieves Barragán Mohacho. Allow time to reach east London from either hotel area. If you want to explore Shoreditch, place the meal within that visit rather than travelling across town between tightly timed bookings. Check the current menu and discuss dietary needs with the restaurant.

An afternoon-tea reservation. Claridge’s serves afternoon tea in its Foyer & Reading Room, following the traditional combination of sweet and savoury dishes. It can suit a day when you want to keep the evening free. Check the menu, price and reservation conditions for your date, especially during a festive period.

For each dining reservation, check the practical details before paying a deposit:

  • Read the menu for your date, and ask whether a published sample may change.
  • Confirm dietary suitability and meet the venue’s advance-notice requirement.
  • Check dress requirements against what you plan to pack.
  • Ask whether a drinks pairing is optional or included.
  • Check how service charges are applied.
  • Record the cancellation deadline and deposit terms.

Keep travel time between the hotel and restaurant in the schedule. Avoid putting a distant lunch, afternoon tea and formal dinner close together; each reservation needs time for the meal and the journey.

Leave Space in the First Few Days

Use your confirmed arrival time to pace the opening days. Keep the first day flexible, then place the meals and other bookings that need fixed times on later days.

Arrival day. Allow for immigration, baggage collection and the transfer, followed by an undemanding meal near the hotel. If your room will not be ready, use the luggage-storage arrangement you confirmed before departure. Avoid reservations with a dress code or a fixed arrival time while flight and airport delays could still affect your plans.

One main reservation per day. A Mayfair day can accommodate the formal dining occasion, with dietary notice already sent from Perth. A separate Shoreditch visit leaves time for Spanish cooking and exploring the area without a return journey between bookings. Keep the surrounding hours open for walking, a spa appointment or rest.

Before you leave Perth. Check the bookings in the order they depend on one another:

  • Confirm the complete flight itinerary, including the Heathrow arrival time and the connection.
  • Check entry documents for every passport in the group, including the UK ETA or appropriate alternative. Review current official advice for the UK and any stopover.
  • Confirm the exact room category, cancellation terms and arrival-day access arrangements in writing.
  • Match the transfer to the terminal, luggage and hotel address.
  • Send dietary requests within each venue’s notice period, record cancellation deadlines and pack clothing that meets the dress codes.
